Gluten penetration through the skin ....

I have been reading about coeliacs and those with sensitivity to gluten and their concerns and worries about gluten penetration of the skin. We are told quite firmly that gluten molecules are too large to enter our pores but there appears to be evidence that we may be being affected in other ways.

It has also been reported that some people are developing skin rashes when products have wheat in them. Wheat starch is a filler used in many cosmetics - worst offenders are lipsticks and mascaras. Check carefuly foundations, face powders, eye shadows and some creams - especially if your skin is showing signs of erruptions (pimples and rashes)!

Extra Note: It is always wise to ask cosmetic companies if their products contain wheat/barley/rye/oat starch as well as gluten. I have personally purchased and tried out several brands. Lipsticks can prove difficult to find that remain firm in the tube, are not brittle, apply evenly (do not have a soapy, flakey appearance), do not snap/break in the tube, are not like a wax crayon on application. So far the one that comes out top out of every one that I have purchased is from the Green People. Although their list of contents doesn't list any form of gluten or grain, I wrote and asked for confirmation .. here is their link:

Hi Lynxcat! Your blog is very interesting! My colleagues think I am nuts (agree!!) but I have had my desk assessed at work and NO ONE is allowed to sit at my desk now - I am neurotic about being near anyone with anything which has gluten in it. It is taking me so long to get rid of the DH (not keen on the dapsone side effects) that I have taken to the extreme in cleaning my desk and the door handles and the kettle handle and the list goes on! I have at the moment given up wearing any makeup as I found it was affecting the DH round my face and ears. x

Hi Zoombie, Then we are a pair of nuts together! Lol! I think though you do notice a difference if you are extra careful and you most certainly do if you are not!

I have found out something recently - just checking to get more detail about it first - but I think it could have some link to some people's DH. I'm not sure yet and need to do a little more reading but will put up what I know very soon.

I agree also. I have DH and I am in Need of a hair cut but hair stylist won't cut because of this. It's been 5 months since last cut
