Hi Pamary, You sound as though you have had a very rough tough time but now that you have been diagnosed you can at least start to try and mend yourself. Being newly diagnosed, you will feel extremely confused, betrayed by your body. You will probably also feel extreme tiredness and lethargy and many more odd symptoms.

Regarding individual pains, it is a little difficult for any one here (we are all lay people and not doctors) to say whether something is normal or not. All I woud say to you is, if a pain doesn't subside and if it is persistent then it is always wise to have it checked out. NHS Direct may be a good option with it being the weekend:

nhsdirect.nhs.uk/

Regarding your coeliac disease - it will get better, it does take time and patience but once the gluten has cleared out of your system your villi will begin to heal, your body will take in the nutrients it needs out of your food and you will feel much much better. Take things slowly, eat simply and as naturally as possible and your gut will mend amazingly quickly.

Hope you soon feel well again. :)

Hi Pamary52, many of us were misdiagnosed at first and they reckon that it often takes 14/15 years for us to be diagnosed. They thought that I had colitis and I was on codeine for around 14 years before being diagnosed.

Now this pain that you have could be caused by the effects of the morphine which tends to constipate people. I'm sorry if this is a bit vague.

It will take a little while for your body to settle down and for your villi to recover so try not to worry about the pain and if it persists consult your GP who seems on the ball.

What I found was that after diagnosis everything changed because we are in the system so they know what's wrong with us, so take it one day and one step at a time and if you have any other questions then you ask away because we were all newly diagnosed once.

And good luck,

Jerry

First, Hope you get and feel better soon. I feel for you having to endure 15 years of internal discomfort before this diagnosis. It is sad to hear this still is happening but encouraging to hear that more people are getting the appropriate tests and diagnoisis accomplished sooner helping those who suffer.

Mending yourself is a top priority after the years of possible damage that may have occurred.

If you haven't already started, it is important to read up on the systemic damage that may have occurred not only to intestines but other organs of the body. Add to this any damage that may have been done by any medication and treatment given during your weaken autoimmune condition.

With Coeliac Disease there isn't any "NORMAL" response, symptoms or recovery period after diagnosis because you have differences in the time after what trigger (activation of the disease) it's spectrum of damage effects, and individual thresholds to the pain and damage that occurs.

Best advice:

* Heal the GUT. Remove all possibilty to GLuten (Wheat, Barley, and Rye) ingestion to allow for healing. Remembering:

* 1PPM of gluten does damage to coeliacs gut but individuals threshold to feeling it's damaging effects will vary.

* The possibility that if you have a leaky gut that some coeliacs can have may not heal at the same rate as the villi.

* The possibility you may have additional issues with your gut (due to prior medication received or your autoimmune condition) that have not been discovered.

* Continue to educate yourself and your physician. Yes we still have to do this with our physicians about your findings on this disease. New research studies, insights, and findings are being published It is hard for professionals to stay current. Stay informed through groups like this and attending and supporting your local celiac groups and efforts to inform.

* Monitor the issues you continue to have and see your physician (Preferable a specialist) that deals with coeliac Disease when you become concerned.

My daughter who was diagnosed as a celiac 5 years ago is now finding she is at the early stages of Chrons disease.

Hang in their and keep us posted on your status and findings :)

Hi pammy, It may take time to settle but carry on with gluten free. Using grandsons laptop, mine not working not sure if or when back in action dont see children much but his birth day. day.Took time for my coeliac condition to settle, then after 2 plus years got IBS that thankfully is near enough under control. Just stick to gf and you will find all will work out. Dont worry at all just keep to gf. Cheers.

Hi Pamary, You have had it rough. Some great advice on here and just a little additional from me...avoid oats for at least the first year. Also, I found that after being undiagnosed for many years that the damage to my gut had resulted in holes in the intestinal wall and now, if I ever get gluttened, I have severe pain in the part of my intestine which had the most damage. Funnily enough, it's roughly where you have your pain.

It took a good year for my body to feel properly well and during that time I ate minimal commercial GF foods (mainly because there were very few to be had 20+ years ago) and stuck to naturally GF foods.

You may also find that you don't deal with some foods that are GF because your gut is in a state and until it heals can be very sensitive and not able to always digest things easily. It's quite common to have problems with dairy foods and I still can't eat nuts. Be kind to your gut. I found eating a banana every day was soothing and lots of steamed veg. It does get better and easier. Take care x
