Hi
I am in the process of being diagnosed celiac. I was just wondering if anyone else has aching joints? And pain in their shoulder blades? Is this a symptom of it?
Thanks

If you have issues with gluten then it is more than likely you will have absorption issues. This will result in low levels of important nutrients - B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD all of which can be involved in aches and pains. Especially low VitD ...
Me too. Just finally diagnosed last week after 2 years of bone pain, nerve pain and shoulder/ neck pain. I’ve bought endless ‘cures’, a TENS for my neck and shoulders and assumed because I’ve spondylitis in my neck it was that. I’m also type 1 diabetic so assumed the cramps in my feet and tingling hands were all that. Sadly so did my GP’s. I went to see a local acupuncture doctor who said my problem was my stomach? I was surprised as my stomach was fine. I had to fight with the GP to have a coeliac blood test in April, and the rest is history. When the endoscopy results came back last week as positive I was relieved but quite sad. But....the pains are subsiding and I’m certainly not taking pain killers or feeling generally unwell now. I had what I think was a flare up when I first cut out gluten after the endoscopy - but I feel less stiff now in the mornings and generally better. You’re not alone ! Look up the specialist in neurological coeliac symptoms, he’s based in a Sheffield hospital. You’ll find loads of info about him on here. I’m taking vitamin D and calcium now, as undiagnosed for so long I’d developed osteopenia- also I take vitamin B and turmeric for inflammation. Good luck! X
Yes, I spent years being treated for arthritis, lots of medication that it turned out I didn’t need. Didn’t do my stomach any good either.
After going gluten free the pains went away fairly quickly, although it took a while to get my health back.
Along with any supplements you may take, make sure you are doing exercise to maintain your bone density. Good luck!
