Gluten free Pork pies in Bristol at the food festival the Paintworks Brislington.

Hi folks, it's too late to go along now but for future reference one of our members has her own artisan company called the Store Cupboard and today I went along and met Malago (Maggie) who owns and runs the 'Store cupboard' and I told her that her secret was not safe with me LOL.

This is something that I feel strongly about as there are many independent manufacturers of good quality gluten free foods out there and we the coeliac consumer are not aware of them so I am doing my best to promote independent gluten free food manufacturers. So if any of you have similar enterprises then please contact me and I'll take it from there.

Anyway this morning I went over to Brislington to the food festival at the Paintworks and met Malago (Maggie) and bought some of her hand made gluten free pork pies and almond and gluten free aniseed biscuits and some home made marmalade.

It was great to actually meet not only another coeliac but a member of GFG and Maggie is a smashing lady who can certainly handle herself in the kitchen so look out for Store Cupboard at future markets and I will be listing events.

For those of you who would like to see what her pies look like here's a picture and it was delicious as I had it for lunch but fortunately have some more to go in my freezer, they were also very reasonable at only £2.00 each. So please see:

I will be listing future markets on here and it was great to meet you Maggie,

Jerry

It would be interesting to see a list of the ingredients of the pork pie and the flour used.

It's the wrong side of the country for me unfortunately. What a shame. We found a pub restaurant the other week where the staff were so switched on to gluten I just knew there was someone with coeliac close to the kitchen. On asking I was right, the owner has coeliac. They test out gf recipes first then add them to the usual menu. I had a carvery with gf gravy followed by my first full cheesecake in nine years! It's called the Countryman in Kirkby in Ashfield if anyone is interested. We will be going again.

Thanks for the info Jerry, keep flying the flag!

Hi Lynilou, if you are in the North of England then there is the foodamentalist and they make and sell gluten free pork pies in markets around the Yorkshire area and there's the Gluten free food company who do mail order and here's a link to them and they sell the pork pies + Mandy's pies etc and well worth checking out:

I hope this helps,

Judy Booby are you in the Bristol area?

Pretender .....I used Doves Farm Gluten Free Plain Flour and milk, lard, egg and salt. The filling is local rare-breed pork with an onion, fresh herb and spice mix made with butter. I'm not sure how suitable this would be for you, thanks for your enquiry. Malago @theSTORECUPBOARD

Thanks Malago but to much gluten in the flour for me but well done for providing something different for those who can tolerate the gluten content.

Thanks Pretender for your comment; all CD folk have a different tolerance to gluten. I suspected as much from your previous comments over time, that my GF Pork Pies would not be suitable for you.

Hi Malago, its not that well understood that we have different levels of tolerance to gluten which is why many consider the term "Gluten Free" to be misleading. Sadly I go away drooling for a pork pie and other treats not permitted for the last 8 years.

Lynilou that's a shame but there might be a GF pork pie maker nearer or make your own! Glad you found good GF food the other day.

Sigh - so much milk and butter ...

Jacks Well milk and butter not strictly necessary....... try water and lard instead. I use milk and butter for looks and taste but if you are dairy intolerant that can be got round. Might you make some yourself?
