Can anyone recommend a good healthy M... - Gluten Free Guerr...
Can anyone recommend a good healthy Multi grain or seeded brown loaf of bread available on prescription as my DS Multi grain loaf is discont
Hi Celia I get Lifestyle bread on prescription, you can only order it in batches of 8 now, before they used to let you order whatever as long as it was over 6 units. As far as I know they supply the bread for M&S. The company seemed to have changed in the last few months and here is their new website ultrapharm.eu/products/
I have looked at their products on the website and I don't think the loaves resemble what I receive on my script so it might be worth ringing them for more information. Or perhaps it is listed on the CUK website. I have just placed an order at my doctors so they still provide the bread, it is brown fibre loaf and has seeds in it and in my opinion the bread is very good. Hope this is helpful
Hello I get the Juvela fresh fibre bread on prescription pip code is 339-0789 I tried it at a roadshow and its about the next best thing!
I get juvela on prescription. Tried loads of different brands (though not the one you mentioned) and it is to my taste the best of a bad bunch. I make my own using Juvela fibre mix and it turns out well. Even non coeliac hubby likes it fresh baked
Hi Celia, I get have tried multi grain genius bread as a one off when I ran out of my usual bread which is Warburtons. I found it really nice full of lots of seeds and grains not sure if you can get it on prescription.
Hi celia i know you asked about on prescription but i like the Asda seeded bread and its only around 1.75 for a six hundred gram loaf not the small slices
Tesco have started to do one but not available on prescription though!
Hi everyone. Be careful of some asda gf products if you have DH and CD some products set off the DH as I found out especially the pizza bases and biscuits! No biscuits and get my pizza bases on prescription.
hi i,ve been without a laptop for five days can you tell me what dh stands for it might sound silly but i don,t remember seeing anything about it only been coeliac since december
I like the Juvela fresh multi grain. The glutafin white is awful, has a sticky quality. Its okay toasted..
I have just changed to Juvela from Glutafin as I am finding, too, that the fresh white bread has become very stodgy, and as you say it's ok for toast. Just found out that nGenius bread is on prescription as is Warburtons. Will have to see if I can get some to try. Soft white code; 379 8568
Thank you everyone I think it's between Lifestyle, Juvella and possibly genius if the multigrain is available on prescription. Now it's a matter of having to go back to my doctors to get them to amend the pip code to a new one. Hope they won't start objecting and being awkward. I wish I could do it through the pharmacy but at Boots where I already have my repeat prescription the pharmacist said I need to get new prescription from doctor.
Livwell are good and they don't have codex wheat starch. theres a good range flat breads etc.
Hi Celia,
I have a terrible game getting any seeded/multigrain bread on prescription in my area.
I find white and brown loaves get boring after about the fourth loaf! (I also wish the fresh loaf batch ordering size of 8 was smaller...!). I so hate having to freeze the bread because I think it changes the texture.
However, I have recently discovered Glutafin wheat free fibre rolls (pip code 344-3652). To my delight they have seeds/bits inside. They come in packets of four, don't need freezing and taste okay. The white version reminds me a little of an English muffin when toasted.
One packet of 4 rolls is only half a unit, and because they are considered a long life product you can request exactly the quantity you want - useful for those of us who are restricted to 10 units a month.
Whilst it's not exactly the loaf solution you were looking for, they do make good sandwiches.
I hope this helps.
Hi Celia,
I'm not sure how it works in your area but at my GPs practice, I am allowed to ask for new products when I feel like trying them without a GPs approval.
It may be worth finding out who in your practice deals with coeliac prescriptions and trying to develop a working relationship with them instead of the GP.
I have done this at my practice. It makes life easier because I can sometimes discuss food issues on the phone and it saves time for both sides.
To start with I only ordered one packet of fibre rolls and one packet of white rolls to assess whether I liked them (btw the white rolls are not seeded).
I would recommend that you consider something similar. There is nothing worse than getting stuck with a large prescription of bread that you don't like!
I use up any loaves I find disappointing by turning it into fried eggy bread - but one can only eat this so often before the waistline complains...!
Thank you Regalbirdy,
It's been a complete nightmare trying to get my bread on prescription. I settled in the end on Glutafin fibre loaf as I was told by DS that this is their sister company and the same bread. Unfortunately after a 2 week wait due to complications with order I picked up 2 loaves of my new bread and paid prescription, this morning about to open it, quickly read ingredients to find it has codex wheat starch which I can't tolerate. They gave me wrong bread, a different PIP code. Now they say I won't get a refund for it and will have to go back to GP for new prescription.....another long wait I guess!
