Hi all I just want to say what a brilliant site this is and seeing all the different posts with information and experiences people have had is really helpful.
I had sort of given up hope of my vision returning in my left eye due to cornea damage after many procedures due to Glaucoma and Uveitis and was told last year that a cornea transplant was off the table as too risky , I have been trying to adjust to life with vision in one eye but it takes a long time especially doing normal things that I took for granted and tbh the only people who understand are the ones who have sight loss or going through what all the people on here are .
Anyways yesterday at my appointment I saw a different consultant who is now going to do a DSEK which hopefully will restore some sight in my left eye , to say I'm over the moon is an understatement and I have gone from being very down to ecstatic in a matter of minutes ,
I just wanted to share this because sometimes when you think nothing can be done you get a brilliant surprise so never give up hope
Thanks

I just had to look up DSEK as hadn't heard of it. It's incredible what procedures can be done. Fingers crossed for you!
I think, because the sight loss was gradual in my right eye, I just got used to it over time. Now it's mostly gone I had the same feelings as you when issues started developing in my left - cataract, vitreous detachment, MGD. And the consultant seemed hesitant about putting me forward for cataract surgery due to the risks.
But he did and after some minor complications after, I can still see enough to drive etc so was very relieved.
But I totally get what you're saying about people not understanding. The uveitis underlying my glaucoma has always played havoc with everything. And it's still there in my right and I still have pain every day from it - and also from the MGD/dry eye in both. But when I had the cataract op in my left, people would say 'Oh my Auntie Jean had it and she's fine now, are you?' And I'm thinking 'No, I'm not like your Aunty Jean!'
What frustrates me even more, sometimes, is the ignorance from people who should know better. I have to say, most of the consultants I've met over the years have been very knowledgeable and pleasant. Their underlings, a mixed bag. And while some of the nurses are great and know their stuff, others don't seem to understand that you can't see the red line or the green line or the star or whatever because - guess what - you have glaucoma!
At eye casualty, after my cataract op, I was accused of not looking where the nurse told me to look, while trying to get a pressure reading in my right eye. The eye in which I'm virtually blind... 😃
Hi thanks for the reply Omg everything you have said is like everything I should have said and you did make me laugh with the aunty Jean statement and tbh that's what a lot of people say or have you had it long or you will get used to it there are people worse off in the world and I totally understand that but to people who have conditions which affect their sight it sometimes is a lonely world where only fellow sufferers understand ,
I'm glad you are still driving that is a vital lifeline in lifeline in our lives and to have that taken away is a hard pill to swallow .
I understand what you say about mixed bag of consultants and nurses but like you the Majority are fantastic and understand completely but there are a few who just don't seem to be interested and it's like you have this condition just learn to live with but they are very few .
I hope that after my op I get the vision back like you have it must have been so good I just hope I get the same feeling .
I guess everyone's got their own stuff going on and we're probably all guilty of dismissing other people's concerns or issues when we don't fully understand.
Hope you don't have to wait too long - and do give a progress report!
Yes course we are but after having a condition that limits the the things normal things that you can do it's made me a much more understanding person .Thank you and hopefully it won't be long as I'm up for pre op next Friday .
