Hydrus Microstent Efficiency
Hi, I had the Hydrus stent fitted almost a year ago now, it has been brilliant for me leaving my right eye drop free with no further visual fields deterioration. The pressures are hovering around 14-16 now.
When first diagnosed I had pressures as high as 34 so it is doing a great job. From what I can gather it provides a constant improvement in drainage, it is better than drops whereby the pressures fluctuate each day as the drug wears off. I have been told that the optic nerve head is more prone to problems with fluctuating pressures than absolute pressure.
I had a failed Trab in that eye and would rather have a stent as the eye completely heals over with no bleb to worry about.
The op was easy and done with local anaesthetic, I am lucky that I have a brilliant consultant who did the op at Frimley Park near Camberley. At the moment he is very pleased with the result I don't have to see him for another 6 months now.
I hope this is of some use and good luck if you go ahead with it.
I had a Hydrus microstent put in in Dec 22. It was done at the same time as cataract surgery. The procedure was fine. However it doesn't seem to have brought the pressure down as much as the consultant would like. I have normal tension glaucoma with initial pressure of around 20. The stent got it down to around 15, which is where it was before with drops. I have therefore been put back on drops. First dorzolamide was reintroduced then latanoprost. Pressure 14 at last appointment so trabeculectomy is on the cards if my sight deteriorates further.
