hi everyone seen so many posts about eye masks, what are they for please?

Hello there,as far as I understand they are helpful for dry eyes.I first saw an opthamologist on you tube suggesting them.To help keep the front of the eye lubricated ,a gland produces an oil and this gland can sometimes become blocked.The heat from an eye mask softens the oil so the gland can work properly then gentle massage along the eyelashes helps release the oil onto the surface of the eye.This is just a simple explanation in laymans terms.I have thyroid eye disease and have had to find out things for myself from forums and you tube.I bought mine from amazon and although I am not diligent and use it every day, I find it helps relieve my symptoms when my eyes are particularly dry, red and gritty.Of course I still use my prescription ointment and eye drops but this is a useful addition for me.Hope this helps.

Brilliant comment, I use the heated eye mask and then remove the grit next to the eyelashes with cotton stick dipped in salty water
