An interesting piece of recent American research has compared the slightly higher pressures in the colder months compared with warmer months.
Also that pressures are lowered with dynamic exercise like jogging and cycling but probably not with weight lifting.
I found it interesting that dry eyes tend to be worse in the winter months which may lead to increasing pressures.
Medics often say that pressures will vary over 24 hours, and I think that they tend to be higher in the morning, just the opposite to Blood pressure recordings.
It is a very long article but bits are very good. Thank goodness people are gradually understanding Glaucoma.
Reading the Glaucoma UK magazine always gives me hope as they always have positive news and research.
That’s interesting information, thanks muddled me! I must do more jogging. I already do aerobics, which is also supposed to be good but it hasn’t done anything for my glaucoma as yet!! xx
Good morning, very interesting, thanks muddleme.I’ve noticed I’ve had to use my dry eye drops more now the weather has become colder and winder, even though I wear glasses which gives a little protection. I do a long daily walk and my pressures are staying constant at the moment. I’m very fortunate as I have great eye service her with two eye hospitals and both have emergency departments if I get worried.
Yes, it’s good to know glaucoma is being more understood outside of the expertise of the eye hospitals.I also, have an excellent GP who contacts me when I get my letters from the hospital about what has been done at my appointment, to make sure I understand what has been written.
Glaucoma UK and this forum are great for information and knowing there are others who go through similar problems and can help, even just to cheer a person up.
Thanks muddleme.... its a long read and I think I would have to be a scientist to understand it all! I think personally that we tend to be happier in warmer months and this leads to less stress equals less chance of your pressure rising. Basically if you don't get any sunshine, buy a special light that gives on those good feel factors of Summer. Perhaps, the ones used for sad syndrome during winter months.. Heating also, I know my nose is stuffier since the heating went on, I imagine your eyes would be drier also in constant heat filled rooms. I have to live separately from my partner, he likes heat I hate it. He is in one room watching tv and i am in the other... We live in the south of france and i personally don't need any heat on in the winter i just put on a jumper and its perfectly warm enough. take care valfrance
Yes, I think you are right about people feeling happier in the warmer months.
There was a reference to that in the long winded article. It also suggested that the special lights used for S.A.D in the winter may also help pressures.
I think S.A.D stands for seasonal affective disorder or winter depression.
I find my dry eyes respond well when I am outside in the garden....luckily I like gardening.
So hope we get a sunny winter here and in southern France .
