Normal tension glaucoma and large optic disc

Hello everyone

Sorry in advance for a long post..My story is very complicated.

I am very concerned and depressed about the whole situation.

I am 32 years old female .

I started having funny streak and line in my vision out of nowhere last year and I went to see my regular ophthalmologist. He took picture of my eyes and was concerned about the inflammation of my optic nerve so he sent me for MRI and after getting results he diagnosed me with Normal Tension Glaucoma because of the thinning of my optic nerve.. He sent me to glaucoma specialist and he did SLT in both eyes.

Later I went for second opinion with a glaucoma specialist while she did agree to the changes in my optic nerve she said I am suspect for glaucoma and will monitor your visual field and optic nerve for over a period of time.

It’s been fine since then but today after taking picture of my optic nerve she said it’s very complicated one quadrant of your right eye is getting worse and other quadrant is getting better. She said she is not quite sure why it’s happening!!!

She said it could be because every machine is different and takes different picture or it really is getting worse.

She prescribed my Glaucoma eye drop for a month and said she will take pictures again next month and we’ll go from there..

I also have lot of other symptoms which doesn’t fit into glaucoma criteria like glare from sun cars and street lights, after images.

I have seen neuro ophthalmologist and cornea specialist for other symptoms but the could not find anything wrong other than dry eyes.

Please share your advice or suggestion if anyone experienced similar situation.

Thanks for reading.

I have normal tension glaucoma and dry eyes for which I use celluvisc non reservative single use eye drops, I've had a trab on the left eye and SLT on the right, glare from the sun and street lamps is normal for me. I use Maui-Jim sunglasses and transition prescription glasses for driving.

Thank you for replying I hope you are going good. I read it everywhere it’s normal to have glare and light sensitivity, but my dr is saying your problem are not due to glaucoma and she is not even sure if it really is glaucoma or it’s just the way my eyes has been since I was born..

Not knowing what’s going on is the hardest part hopefully I’ll have some answer by my next appointment.

Glare from sun and streetlights seem to be normal for glaucoma. It took me a long time to realise that. Sunglasses and transition lenses also help me.

Hi RedHead thank you for your reply.I am sorry it took so long for you to get diagnosed and get treatment . I hope you are doing better now.

For me I feel the glare and starburst vision from car lights in both eyes..

I don’t see any green shape but if I stare at the glare or car lights I see grey dot or flashes in front of my both eyes and after 2-3 minutes it goes away.

I feel when I come in the house after staying out for a while my eyes takes time to get adjusted with indoor light..

My doctor is not sure why I see thing this way as it is not related to glaucoma .. she is not even sure if I have glaucoma..

So I guess I’ll have to wait until my next appointment..

Good luck to you as well.
