Hi Julie,

Floaters are normally nothing to worry about. You may find they are worse some days than others and are more noticeable on bright sunny days. Many people have them. Sometimes it can be serious but this tends to be more if they appear after surgery/ they suddenly appear or increase in number along with flashes.

Thankyou Trish they just seem to be when I look at a white wall or concentrate on looking at the floater itself but also double vision when I cover that eye and look at the tv. I have an appointment with the hospital on June 15th hopefully they can tell me then

Hi Julie, I do get floaters in one eye but most of the time I don't even notice them,it's as Trish said they are more obvious some days than others. They don't affect my vision at all and mine aren't serious. My partner has floaters too and he has perfect vision. Have you just noticed you have floaters yourself ? X

in reply to

Hi I had my floater before I was diagnosed with glaucoma it was that that made me go to the opticians. I tend to notice it more when I concentrate but if I cover my other eye it seems like double vision but that’s when I look at the tv without my glasses. I’m slightly worried. Oh it’s always something x

in reply to

I think mine are more noticeable when it is sunny and fine when I put on sunglasses.I definitely don't ever have double vision. There definitely is always something unfortunately, maybe you could contact an optician ( not Specsavers) and get them to check your eyes if you are worried x

in reply to

Hi mines only double vision if I look at the tv and cover the eye without the floater it’s weird no double vision otherwise hard to explain.I’m not overly worried because he never said it was a problem when I see him but I may go just to check. Thankyou for messaging again x

in reply to

I think I understand what you mean about when you do get double vision. I imagine you would have been told if they had been an issue but there's no harm in making sure and it will stop you worrying. X

Thankyou xx

Hi I have glaucoma and have days when my eyesight is slightly Misty. On a visit to the opticians I was told I had multiple floaters which clumped together and caused the cloudiness. There is nothing to be done about them -they just come and go fir no logical reason and I have to live with them and do not drive if I am having a bad day

in reply toLimesbunglaow

Sorry for your floaters but at least we know it doesn’t make gluacoma worse

Hello, I have had floaters for around 60 years, only notice them if i concentrate on something, dont think there is any cause for alarm, but when it concerns your eyes, well get it checked out, at maybe an independent optician.

in reply tofloki7

Thankyou for your kind message. I’ve got an appointment in June so will ask more then. At my last appointment they didn’t seem worried about it. Just me overthinking

We all over think when faced with uncertainty, and fear of the unknown, and I'm the worst culprit lol !

Hi Julie- yes I get them too. I think as everyone has said they are normal & nothing to worry about. Like you, I notice them more if I look at a white wall. Xx

in reply toWales99

Thankyou for your message. I’m a bit more relaxed about it now. Hope your well. Xx

Yeah hanging on in there! Hope you’re OK. Glad to hear you are more relaxed x

Hi Wales, hope you are still doing ok ? Fingers crossed for you tomorrow ♥️🤞 x

Hi. Thank you for thinking of me. Yes very scared but also resigned to it. At least the weather will be nice (hopefully) for my recovery. Hope all is OK with you.

in reply toWales99

That's exactly how I felt scared but resigned but you honestly will find it's much scarier thinking about it than going through it. Weather definitely looks like it's going to be lovely for resting and recuperating in. Yeah all good here, I finally made optician's appointment, although my prescription won't have changed due to artificial lenses I need field test and pressure check.

Take care x

Wales99 in reply to

Yes I saw your post saying you needed an opticians appointment. It’s my last day at work today so just tying everything up. At least work is helping keep my mind off it! Good luck with the opticians.

in reply toWales99

Keeping busy today is a good idea or your mind would go into overdrive. I don't think I slept the night prior to mine but then I don't sleep prior to any eye appointment 😂. You will be fine and tomorrow evening you will be home and it will be over and done with and you can be waited on hand and foot.😜Thanks I'm sure my appointment will be ok I just dread pressure checks and field test but it needs done. X

in reply to

Hidden is everything ok issue you need an optician appointment is it just a regular one. I’m dreading mine on 15th havnt had one since March. Hope yours goes ok xx

in reply to

Hi Julie thanks for asking yes everything I think is fine. I've not had my eyes checked since last May and not had field test since Sept and you are meant to get check up 12 weeks after trab but I was putting it off. However I can't put it off any longer as my hospital check up is middle of July and need it done for then. Mine is 16th so day after you . Yes the worry is your pressure is up or more damage to eyes but hopefully both of us will be totally fine. I will worry about it the day before and then deal with whatever I'm told on the day. My optician is really lovely which is a big plus.

We can both be scared together n then laugh afterwards when everything is as it should be 🤞 x

in reply to

I’m glad your ok. It’s such a nervous time. Sometimes we worry to much I guess. Like you I just hope the pressures are ok it’s the not knowing all the time with this. Yes will both be scared together and then laugh afterwards. Xx

in reply to

Yes if we could just magically know our eye pressure life would be so much easier. I never thought a couple of years ago being so concerned about my eye pressure would dominate my life 👀🙄. X

in reply to

Oh me to. I’m not even sure I knew we had an eye pressure x

in reply to

Me neither and yet now we are obsessed with it.I think I liked it better when I was happily ignorant 😋 x

Yes I didn’t sleep much last night but that wasn’t helped by my neighbours being out in their garden til 11.00 with their (young & very screechy) kids! On a week night 🙄. It is half term here but not for all of us. Then our car alarm went off at 5.00am so we kind of got our own back but it woke us up too & husband on a short fuse had to get up & turn it off. Then the alarm went off at 6.30! It’s good they are putting me under general anaesthetic tomorrow- I will get some sleep!

in reply toWales99

Sounds like the night from hell, I would have been so cross and yes your car alarm going off would have been karma if you hadn't have been affected too. My other half would have certainly been on a very short fuse. I would say try and relax and get some sleep tonight but I know it is probably not going to happen. I forgot you were general and not local so you can indeed catch up on your sleep then. I will be thinking of you x

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Thank you. Yes I’m not sure what is better local or general. I guess both have their good and bad points. I suppose you recover quicker with local. My consultant didn’t give me a choice, just told me that’s what he was doing. I was happy with that so didn’t question it.

in reply toWales99

At least you won't know what's going on so that's a plus point. One my friend's had general as he was petrified and he seemed to recover pretty much the same as me.He could have gone home the same day but he wanted to to stay overnight as the hospital is so far away and he had to be back first thing for check up. I would have gone along with whatever consultant had suggested too x

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply to

Yes I’m only day case I’m not that far from the hospital so should be fine. X

in reply toWales99

Wales99 just want to say hope everything goes well tomorrow. Try to get some rest obviously easier said than done xx

A Thank you. Yes scared but resigned if you can be both. It’s my wedding anniversary on Saturday so I’m hoping I will feel up to some champagne then! Thanks again & take care. Xx

in reply toWales99

I’m sure your be able to have a little bit of champers. I would feel the same as you but your be in good hands. Take care Good Luck. Will think of you. Xx

Hi Julie, I have floaters, I try not to concentrate on them... if you look at something white you can see them more... everyone has them I believe.. I guess we are just noticing thing more and waiting for something to happen to us. We all hope and pray take the eye drops, control your weight, stop smoking and limit your alcohol, do exercise and we are all really good... and you do think why me.. especially when you see other people with no problems living recklessly.

I do believe stress is the biggest cause of everything, and I know I have been stressed virtually all of my life.. it is hard to change. It affects your immune system and has an effect on your mind and body. So Julie do question your double vision certainly that isn't right.. take care from another born worrier valfrance

in reply tovalfrance

Ahh Thankyou so much for your kind reply. I’m also a worrier. I’ve had a lot of stress over the last few years so hey ho it rewards me with gluacoma. I’m trying hard to lose weight. I’ve never smoked and alcohol is few and far between mainly social events but even then it’s not much. I need to concentrate on some weight loss more than anything I’ve lost 1st 4lb so far but Ajax a little blip this week when I weighed in. I have open angle glaucoma was diagnosed last year in December I’m 53 and so so scared. My visual field was very good apparently but havnt had that checked since December. I have thick corneas but I have disc cupping of 0.8 and 0.7 whatever that means but I know it’s at the higher end. I still drive and hope i continue for a long time. I’m on a combination drop once in the morning at 7am. It’s lantanprost and timodol it’s called Fixapost. The floater is when I concentrate on it. Sorry for rambling on. How xx long have you had glaucoma do you drive is it manageable xx

I was diagnosed with glaucoma in january after having 2 years of pressure being treated with monoprost. I am 63. how do i cope... well i must wake up at least twice a night with a jolt ...my brain wants to make sure i haven't gone blind. I know this sounds ridiculous however when you read people's stories on this site...everything seems fine with their drops then suddenly all change. You just don't know.

We think this is the worst at the moment, however when you read about the procedures people have gone through after years of being on drops and now they don't work, I guess that is the future you have to consider.

I have changed since this diagnosis, I am no longer a happy person, I am quite miserable and I worry alot. I think I told you I had SLT and I am on one drop monoprost... i am going back to my specialist mid june to see if my pressure is coping with the one drop and SLT. If i have to go back on the 2nd drop again I will not take any drops with preservative in. I am struggling to get alphagan purite (non preservative) here in france. They wont give it to me its expensive, so I am trying to buy it myself from India just incase i have to go back onto the drops again. The preservative drops ruin your eyes. I know people say just get on with your life, however I could cope with losing a leg but not the slow deterioration of my sight. I am doing my best to take care of myself, however it is hard. I used to smoke stopped immediately in october and have at least 2 glasses of wine a day... now i have reduced the wine, dont drink coffe, drink only herbal tea, no butter, and i try and walk every day. I have a busy job I run a hotel, and it is a stressful job, however it is a job I love and i am now thinking perhaps i have to give it up to avoid stress on my immune system. so that is how i am. valfrance

in reply tovalfrance

I feel very thing you are feeling but here are some great peon here a.nd 96% of peopdont lose noticeable sight so.m keep with that even though I sorry x

Hi Julie, thanks for your kind words... valfrance

in reply tovalfrance

Hi think even though some people on here have operations it doesn’t mean you will or won’t but I do read it like that it seems people don’t always stay just on drops. Saying that there is a guy on here called Traveller who was in his 50s when diagnosed and now well into his 70s and has only ever been on drops. I think the main thing is keeping to appointments and compliance with your drops then from what I have been told it’s manageable. There are lovely people on here I’ve had some lovely messages that now have me in a better place than I was in December and even when I have a bad day now I have them to lift me up. Now I’m in a place I hope where I can lift them if they need it now. I hope I can help you with my messages as well. Everyone is lovely on here especially Hidden Wales99 Sunshine8888 . Take care and will chat soon. X

Hi Julie thanks for your reply as you mentioned we are not alone.. and in the words of michael jackson of course too.... your appointment is soon, please ask about SLT and show him the research from the glaucoma medication... its worth a try. thanks valfrance

in reply tovalfrance

valfrance hi I will definitely mention it. Not sure if they will go for it but definitely worth talking about. I hope your feeling slightly better after chatting. Did they offer you slt straight away or did you have to ask

valfrance profile image
valfrance

Hi Julie i do feel better for chatting you are amazing.... never mind you dont know if they will go for it..... if you are able to get it.... why cant you have it ... he mentioned age to you.... well young people are offered this right away... insist on it.... the first opthalmogist immediately gave me 2 kinds of drops... i changed because she was horrible to me and i did not feel comfortable with her... the 2nd opthalmogist kept me on the drops then wanted to give me a beta blocker to reduce my pressure further... i had a bad reaction to beta blocker.....i asked her if i could have slt and she said that was the last resort and only given if your eyes cannot put up with the drops or if the drops no longer work... this is not true... i went to see another opthalmogist/surgeon specialising in glaucoma and she did not hesitate and said try slt ... on the glaucoma link i sent you last time print it... and take it with you... doctors are not gods... if you are eligible and want to try it then do it... maybe you can go down to one drop and not 2 kinds of drops... that is better for your eyes... he said it was age you are too young for it... then argue why do young people get it right away instead of drops.... and the research project states in the future this will be the first thing offered before giving any drops.. to all age ranges who are eligible for it.... so why cant you have it now. good luck valfrance

in reply tovalfrance

valfrance thankyou I definitely will mention it. I’m glad my chat has made you feel better. Will chat soon. Take care x
