Sleep problems

Hi I have had fibromyalgia for 10 years now and am exhausted with the pain. I have a sleepeeze mattress with a mattress topper and a memory foam topper I can still feel the springs through them and very rarely sleep well. I end up sitting up in a chair and seeing the sun rise every day. My legs are awful and hips and back constantly hurt. Don't bother buying a mattress topper or memory foam topper it's a waste of time. If I could afford it I would buy a disability mattress but I only get £360 disability allowance and it's really hard to live on as it is.

Anyone with any suggestions to help with this please let me know!!! Solutions desperately wanted!

Hello AliLeeves,

I got an answer for you for your insomnia, I think. It worked for me so ,I will pass it on to you. ZZZ Quil liquid. It put me to sleep in minutes. I'm sorry to hear your problems, I got a bunch of my own. The main one is peripheral neuropathy which I had for three years. No cure, just a lot of pain. I take gabapentin 600mg 2 each 4x daily and oxycodone 30mg 8x daily. It numbs the pain but doesn't cure the problem. Tell me more about your fibromyalgia. How bad is the pain on 1-10 ? is there a cure ? Let me know. Eddie G.

Try wassem coenzyme Q10 from boots. I take it for chronic fatigue but have noticed a decrease in my pain level associated with my fibromyalgia. If your on any other medication check with the pharmacist for interactions. Hot bath with Epsom salts also help with the pain. As for the hip and back pain, my fibro ihas restricted my mobility due to pain and stiffness in my muscles. I went to my GP because my hips are really, really bad, keeping me awake at night. I went for an x-ray.and The x-ray was normal. Then I was sent for physiotherapy. The physiotherapist said, due to me not being as active through the pain the muscles in my bum have have tightened and she recommended I do stretching exercises every day which has alleviated the pain to some extent. Hope that helps.

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2000 and Thyroid illness in 2005. Once on optimal treatment for the thyroid I have lost most of the pain connected to Fibro. I no longer consider myself to suffer.

There is a problem with diagnosing the thyroid as most GP's only test the TSH or Thyroid Stimulating Hormone. You also need FT4 and FT3 tested. The thyroid produces T4 and it needs to convert into the Active hormone T3. There are trillions and trillions of cells in the body and each one has a receptor for T3 - so when the T3 is low then there is not enough to go around all the cells and things begin to go wrong.

It is also important to have Ferritin - Folate - Iron - B12 - VitD tested and for them all to be good in range. Docs are too often happy for things to be just in range - when they need to be at the top of the range.

Always obtain copies of your blood test results - it is your legal right to have them. Being told your results are normal is just an opinion and NOT a result.

At least eliminate this as a problem. As you have been unwell for 10 years it could well have affected your adrenals. If you type Fibromyalgia and Thyroid into the Search Box on the Green Bar above then press Enter on your keyboard - many posts will appear to give you more support and information.

Have you considered going gluten free ?

I would ask your OT for a disability mattress. They will come.and assess you but your GP should refer you to an OT if you haven't got one. They can then order one from Mediquip if it isn't too expensive and or they feel you will benefit from it. I haven't got one as I hadn't heard of it but they provided me with a bed rail and a stool which should I add I don't use as it is absolutely awful and caused me more pain as im little and kept sliding down when I was ironing. Stool gone and I rarely iron due to pain and every thing including a fork some days are heavy. I hope I have been of a little bit of help. Sandy from salisbury
