Come May, everyone with chronic medical illness or long-term pain – from cancer to coronary disease, MS to myalgia, becomes a potential candidate for a new mental health label.

I find it sad that so many people are potentially seen as having mental health issues just because they have a long term illness.

I understand that people with long term illness may become depressed as a result of pain and the lack of medical support to alleviate it or other symptoms.

As an NHS user I have experienced first hand lack of resources and lack of professional time to investigate thoroughly.

Hence so many of us find ourselves in this 'medical holding pen' called FND. This in itself can cause depression because of the way a person with this 'diagnosis' is treated or not treated as the case may be.

As much as we search for an answer or provide information and evidence we are further labelled as hypochondriacs. Once we are in this 'pen' it is very difficult to get the help we need. I feel certain that the mental health issue stems from the way that most of us are regarded by the medical profession.
