Progress of my PIP application

Hi

Well I had my assessment last week (having made my application back in Feb). The Doc started off quite matter of fact but soon warmed. Near the end my husband said can we wind this up. She said she was finished, went out the room to collect something, and I duly had a seizure. I don't think that she is of the opinion that I took an opportunity to fake it. We had to get me to our car in our crappy wheelchair. Getting me into it was funny - the Doc said they are not allowed to lift people - my husband said it was only the legs and he'd take the heavy part. So she went out and got the receptionist and they lifted a leg each. The Doc stayed with us to the car, my husband having to ask a complete stranger to help get me into the car. The Doc stroked my hubbie's arm and said he shouldn't be left having to do these things. Don't know if that will help with the application - she sends a report to the DWP and they will just say no. I got a letter from Dr Jon Stone sending me a copy of what he told the assessor and in his letter to me said 'With respect to the PIP application I've written a short letter documenting that you attend my clinic but I'm not sure that these really make much difference to the whole procedure and because of the complexity of these conditions patients applications often go to appeal before they are sorted out'. I'm not surprised as I've been working on what to say to the Tribunal even before I get my NO letter from the DWP. I was a little miffed at something he said in his official letter. '... she can shake giving the appearance of an epileptic fit although the episodes are dissociative attacks and from a lay perspective are best understood as something similar to a panic attack. I'm NOT having a panic attack. He later said that I had intermittent mobility problems - they are daily but he didn't say so. They're NOT intermittent. He's a great guy but the evidence he gave I think won't help as PIP is all about mobility. Now I just have to wait another 8 - 12 weeks for the DWP decision. And all this process started in Feb.

Sod it. Sorry for the rant. It's a struggle for us all to keep fighting the system given the fatigue not to mention lost jobs and good incomes. But I'm going to press on. I'm like a dog with a bone. And I'm Northern Irish so no Docs don't annoy me. I have a degree, post docs, years working as a solicitor for the government. We are NOT stupid people, so put your egos back in the box doctors.

Cheers

Lou

Hi Lou just to let you know I was granted pip straight away as like you I had a seizure at the assessment and ended up being taken back to the taxi in a wheelchair. It's an agonising wait but hopefully you will get it without any appeal , fingers crossed for you .
