Today, there was an announcement by NHS that they have started treating a gamout of cancer types, including prostate, with personalized vaccines based on mRNA, prepared by BioNTech in Germany.

I saw the article Max put out on some "other" forum:

uk.news.yahoo.com/cancer-va...

It does not mention prostate cancer....Do you have some other article that does mention prostate cancer..??

Thanks for posting....

It was replicated in a Greek site making reference to BBC as the source.

Jf_ It is likely the realization of this collaborative set up late last year.

UK, BioNTech test mRNA against cancer, Nature Biotechnology volume 41, page 162 (2023). nature.com/articles/s41587-...

The UK government will partner with BioNTech to fast-track up to 10,000 patients into clinical trials of mRNA immunotherapies to treat cancer. The alliance builds on lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic, during which vaccine development accelerated because the country’s National Health Service (NHS), academia, the regulator and the private sector worked together, according to a BioNTech press release.

The project, dubbed the Cancer Vaccine Launch Pad and run by the NHS and Genomics England, will recruit patients starting September 2023 to take advantage of the clinical trial, genomics and centralized healthcare data infrastructure afforded by the NHS.

The trials of yet undisclosed mRNA cancer immunotherapies in adjuvant or metastatic settings will run until 2030. Around one-third of BioNTech’s wholly owned mRNA vaccine candidates are already in UK trials, all using a fixed combination of mRNA-encoded tumor-associated antigens. These include BNT111 for advanced melanoma, BNT112 for prostate cancer and BNT113 for head and neck and other cancers.

Also as part of the agreement, the Mainz, Germany-based BioNTech will set up an R&D hub in Cambridge, UK employing around 70 researchers, as well as an office in London. (emphasis added)

Yeah great news. Saw something else that tried to manage expectations which suggested could be 5 to 10 years before it, if successful, became mainstream in U.K. We have to hold on and they need to get on with it. Lol

This was also on the news here. It showed one gentleman being treated, so far so good. But this is not like covid, it is a personalised vaccine. Will take years to roll out. But definitely a good step forward.

Interesting development but sounds very preliminary and most men think PCa is for old men and slow growing,so are unlikely to take advantage of it without pushing by primary care doc.

Sorry to be a bit pessimistic but I don't think we a really there yet and not sure we can get there.

Jf,

Precision medicine will change the playing field in PCa and other cancers. The concept is what will move the pole towards finding a cure. AR drugs will not do it, but part of the answer..... MDT/SBRT is adding to the options, and may do it in some...but, we need other additions--a vaccine, and another broad target type drug (not chemo)...to get people into remission/cure...IMHO...

All the best,
