I'm taking Gabapentine and Duloxotine, my pain is part of my life. I swam last night, now every movement hurts. Does it get any better?

Hi,

I'm currently on amitriptyline, solpadeine max (daytime), syndol (evening), co-codamol 30:500 (when the pain is still unbearable with anything else); I rub tiger balm red, or deep heat max strength into my joints/muscles; I have a memory-foam cushion for the car and if I am sitting for long periods in the same position; I use hypnosis CDs for pain relief ... I'm still in pain every minute of every day! I think some of the folks on here have posted some great ideas/new thoughts on how we can try to reduce our pain levels, and the best we can do is try them all and see what works for us - it seems that everything is a bit individual in its success rates.

Basically, I think pacing yourself is the best advice that everyone seems to say helps. I don't know how long you've had fibro for, but I'm a bit new to having to accept the fact that I'm ill and can't race around like I always used to.

Good luck, and don't forget to share anything that works with the rest of us!

Sara xx

The pain from fibro is daily for me ..but lots of people get like remissions and flare ups.Its natural that you are going to ache a bit when you have exercised especially if you have not done any for a while. Swimming is one of the best things but start them out as short sessions and build up. also if you wanna just give yourself a little support even tho you can swim..take a float and work on your legs one time and your arms the next...but slowly build up ok .Tracy

What excellent advise I think what ever you try break your self into it gently. I found the pain does nt go away but we manage it. I think most of us have good days and then bad. I can manage to do pretty much most things in moderation but |I get cross with my hands when they do not work properly (I have splints - which help) So the short answer is No and they long is management good luck x gins

Have a look att the Dr myhill site. Cut out dairy. Yeast. Caffiene MSG and artificial.sweetners. Take co enzyme.Q10 magnesium D3, and have a look at some simple tai chi or qigong. Wii fit breathing, balance.and simple yoga. But the amount must be within your pacing. Listen to you body

I find swimming.has to be in warm water otherwise I can't cope. And even then its more of a good float than lane swimming.

hi i personally think its about what is right for you and this takes time ..

its a balance between medication and looking after self ..

its good to exersise but dont expect your body to be ok with it like any other person you need to build it slowly ..

gentle dyslexic hugs

There are better and worse times and days for me. Medications help but so do poignant movies and visiting friends. I find doing something for someone else helps get me out of myself too.I just have had to try different things to try to manage as well as I can.

I personally LOVE swimming. I've given up on setting goals except for time - and my level of pleasure in each moment of it. I have to restart whenever I have a 3-4 day break - back to 10 min. Frustration builds and I have to deal with that.

HowToCopeWithPain.com has been a great website to read. I am just now playing with the superbetter app on my I phone.

I take Cymbalta, gabapentin, nabumetone and sertraline. It took several years til we found this combination.

Just notice ... MBSR ... and things are always changing.
