I think purple would be better as it's international and some other charities use yellow (like the Marie Curie Cancer Care, etc)

why not HALF the band yellow with purple writing and butterfly AND the other HALF purple with yellow writing and butterfly??

surely if we have the same colour its easier to see another supporter/sufferer.

it foggies things otherwise.

I have a yellow wrist band from fibro uk and sent for a purple one from the usa and feel proud to wear them

ask at your local support group or order on a fibro websit on line

The UK colours are Yellow with Black dots. This should continue to be used, it has nothing to do with people preferring another colour. The origional UK colours are eye catching and memorable and that is what awareness needs! I've been using it for years.

sparkledust profile image
sparkledust

I say Yellow with black spots as it the UK colours, however the local support group provided us with car sticker ribbons in purple, even though I pointed out the UK colours were Yellow & black spots. I think we struggle with enough with Fibro without the colour issue. If we're in the UK use the yellow & black spots.

I think purple as I feel its a more unisex colour....

I'm from New Zealand and us kiwi's are world renowned for wearing black, however I'd prefer to wear a purple wristband as it's the international colour for fibro.. I really like Nikki's comment about using the butterfly motif as that would really make it stand-out and unique... great idea..!

Hi Mike, nice to know that a fella from New Zealand is following this site.Reading the blogs and questions I fell a bit old for the majority of ladies here., so another fella is good.

Interesting results so far!

Yellow with black dots was chosen by another national charity years ago just to be different (the international colour was already purple). When we started up FibroAction, those colours were being used by a few campaigns, so we used the colours, but went with our butterfly logo instead of polkadots on everything.

In the years since, more and more groups have started using the international purple because it is an easier colour to wear, find ribbons for, etc, etc.

I am not sure people are reading you DebbieC, but it is a shame someone has got there first! Can you think of an alternative?

Personally I sewed butterflies of many colours onto a car seat cover and covered my scooter seat. Made me feel much more positive even if I look eccentric!

How about a butterfly badge, swallow tail with F and M charms attached? Make people ask what it represents as then we get a chance to explain!

Sarah-Jane profile image

Cassey1, have you looked into Chakra colours to aid the health of the whole body for your bracelets? There are seven colours: Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red. Although the gay society have claimed rainbow colours to represent them so this could become confused.

I don't think using colours for anger or danger are a positive message and being that most of the time we have to try and stay positive to get through the days and help each other, we should use calm or bright colours. Not black either as it's not really soft enough. I like the butterfly idea but are men happy with this idea?

Just my thoughts :)

Sirann profile image

I think purple with a yellow butterfly or yellow with a purple butterfly both would look good, you could also add a little trail of black dots from the butterfly to make it look in flight and there you go its using all the colours!!The butterfly would make it look more personal as us fibro's would like to have the freedom of the butterfly and I think they make people smile

Sorry to be a killjoy but I think braclets like ribbons are over exposed! What about somthing complelely diferent like a butterfly badge?

Sarah-Jane profile image
Sarah-Jane in reply to

Like this idea. I love the daffodils for instance for Marie Curie and everyone knows about that.

How about you ladies thinking about something a guy might be happy to wear also.... I mean I get the butterfly thing but it might attract unwanted attention. I'm not being homophobic, far from it, just being practicle.

Sarah-Jane profile image

Good point. How about a removeable butterfly on a link which encompasses the bracelet but not wealded so could be prised apart?

I just like something to wear FMS and proud ... where do we get them from ??

I bought one of the 'Fibro Sucks' T-shirts in size XL from the Fibro Action website. I really like it and it's great quality, but I'm going to have to lose about 2.5st to get into it. It comes up very small on size, I would say it might just be a size 14 if you're lucky. They have a whole range of products.

In the UK purple is used for another couple of awareness campaigns, anit-bullying I think, and LGBT awareness. Yellow is used for cancer awareness though so yellow and black, although the UK Fibro colours, may get confused with other campaigns........ what about a neon colour? Just a thought. x

i think the band should be many different colours because it affects mant people of different colours.something like a rainbow because people with FM should all have a little rainbow in there life, maybe it could be the new sign of hope :) xx

I believe Purple would be the most suitable as FM is not limited to the UK but is international and if it is to be taken seriously, that ought to be known! Thank you.

Sarah-Jane profile image
Sarah-Jane

If it is possible for a yellow and purple bracelet twisting around and blending a little as they join? It is a shame but many choices are already taken. I have just read the 94 previous messages.

I don't wear a bracelet myself as it makes me itch, but I do wear supporting badges/broaches if they are pin and clasp not button and clasp style which hurt as they are like pin tacks when their backs are off!

A butterfly or just the initials FM on a round button using the UK and international colours would open the chances for questions and answers. I also think it should have style about it to encourage more continuous use by those still working!

A butterfly symbolises hope and freedom, the colours are our support groups, so a yellow butterfly on a purple background would be striking, the opposite available too as the more who buy, the more who know more! We can live in hope.

I'm thinking... maybe yellow with black dots? and then bold purple handwriting type font overthe top of it. Or would that be a little too bright ? Sometimes we have to think more is less. But I've got loads of ideas popping in.

Or Maybe, overall purple, and then a separateband with yellow and black dots, in a sort of curving ribbony shape? Writing could be purple or white. (possibly overlaping the two designs). I've been thinking about this poll and have had loads of ideas popping in & out of my head. But I thought something like this. :)

Or maybe purple, with yellow/black polka dots. The yellow dot could be larger & have a black blot on the inside. (or viceversa, or both).

Or maybe the over colour could be purple, w/ big bold block capital writing decorated yellow, and black polka dots. (think Word Art). Yeah that could work. :) Maybe even have a tiny silhouette of black butterf

ly next to it (for added decoration). (or a little ribbon shape, or both either side? That could look pretty). Love all the ideas so far. :) If I have anymore of my own- will keep you posted. wanderingwallflower xxx

I've been thinking...

perhaps the band should be clear/see through- to symbolise the invisibility of the condition and its lack of awareness. It could be decorated with merely a small, single butterfly (yellow w/ purple/black dots?) which stands out as hope. This will make the band unique and hopefully lots of questions will be asked about it. Writing could be engraved or standout too. Or I'm also thinking the colour grey to symbolise 'fog' - fibrofog or general lack of understanding about the condition. Loving all the ideas so far. :) xxx

Lots of good ideas here, glad I don't have to make the final decision!

I live in rainbows, clothing wise, so am biased in favour of that idea! I get lots of positive comments about brightening up a place so it gets lots of notice, but as the gay community have beaten us to it, it's not an option sadly.

I really like the clear idea too, it's different.

Would a purple band and a yellow with the black dots band, entwined around each other be workable?

I can't wear the bands either but my son has never removed his End Poverty Now white wrist band, he's 13 and it must be the cleanest thing about him;)

Maybe not such a dark purple as the international one, more a violet colour, with yellow writing.

What ever colour it ends up being, it cant be beyond manufacturing capability to include the writing in Braille as well as being printed on the band?

well peeps i said yellow with black dots but in all honesty it doesnt really matter so long as its eye catching and can be distinguished from other support groups. there are so many different bands around these days its hard to tell which is which from a glance. would it not be better to find a different kind of band or bracelet to distinguish us sufferers because lets face it how many of you even knew and heard of fibro before you were diagnosed,i certainly never heard the word till then. we need something different so people will ask what it means and not just look at it as yet another coloured band. this is just my thought but your feedback would be appreciated. soft hugs DEBBIE xx

Black and White - they stand out, they can also represent how FMS can take the colour out of your life, but although there is a dark side, the black there is also hope in the white, either for healing or new opportunities of a different nature to develop.

Colours of the Rainbow with a butterfly or not dont mind...Rainbows signify the path between heaven and earth... gods promise... hope, courage pot of gold... and its very healing colours... OR White.. white is the whole colour spectrum... white with perhaps a purple band... unifying international and home. x

Purple would be good; this needs to be recognised across the world. It is sad that in the UK we seem to lack the support from medical professionals; I feel that it is hit and miss being with a GP/Consultant who really cares about your condition. The NHS has awareness weeks for various things including the heart, smoking why not a Fibro Awareness week? Why not invite suffers to seminars or a meeting held by health professionals to support Fibro suffers covering local hospitals area? When can we have wrist bands available?
