I’m 42 (43 in a couple of months) and don’t have any known fertility issues. The simple fact is, I met my partner in my late 30s and life got in the way.
I only had three viable eggs from my egg collection. Two embryos turned out to develop abnormally, and one miracle embryo was top grade and developing nicely (4.33 out of a possible 4.44).
As I only had one viable embryo, the clinic wanted to transfer two days in, as there were no other embryos to compare at blastocyst stage, and my embryo would have more chance once implanted.
Anyway, I’m now 5dp2dt. I tested at 3dp2dt mainly just to see whether I had any hcg in my system left from the trigger shot taken 7 days earlier. The test a viable line. I knew this was probably leftover hcg, and sure enough, these last two days the line has faded to almost nothing. I was trying to be smart about it, but in hindsight, all it did was make me hopeful that the line would get darker, rather than fade, and I’m now just very sad about it.
Has anyone had the same odds as me (or older) and had any success? I just need some positivity. We want this so much.

There are many stories of success by women in their 40s if you search the historical posts. What I have noticed though is they usually require several cycles (3-6) in some cases especially if egg numbers are low which I would say 3 is low. That said I don't think you can compare to other people as we are all so different and bodies react differently. You can take a look at the calculator below which helps you calculate your own individual stats/likelihood of success. All the best
Hi. It can and does happen, so keep up with all ptrsctibed medication including Folic acid and Vitamin D and test on the day recommended by your clinic. Good luck. Diane
I wonder how much trigger you took, and why your hcg line disappeared so soon. I'm on 5dp3dt, the line still easily visuable this morning. I took 500mcg ovitrelles.
I’m 6dp2dt, which means I took the trigger shot 10 days ago. It only stays in the system for 10 days. The line is still there, just very faint. I also took Ovitrelle 500mg.
Yes, it needs a minimum of 10 days for the trigger out of system they say. Me is 11 days after the trigger, I still saw an almost invisible pinkish line this morning. Good luck xxx
I’m 42 about to be 43 and pregnant with my own eggs. For 4 eggs fertilised and 2 made it to blast so it can happen 🤞🏽💜 I hope it does for you this time xx
I’m 42 and my 7 month old son was born when I was 41. That cycle (my second) I made major changes to my diet and lifestyle after being told I had a 3.4% chance of conceiving due to make factor.
I didn’t expect it to work and produced less eggs in my successful cycle (6) than the previous one. Only one made it to 5 day blastocyst and it wasn’t the best grading - 3BB but yet it worked, despite a very eventful pregnancy.
It’s true what they say, it only takes one for a miracle to happen 💙x
Just wanted to send some love and positivity, the testing period and question marks over feint lines is horrid…hang on in there.
I’m 44, and currently in hospital and 37 weeks and 5 pregnant with a little miracle from my own egg. Egg was collected one week before my 44th birthday, this was cycle 5, transfer 6, not first pregnancy but no living children. Previous 3 cycles had failed. It can happen but totally agree with others here some of it is sadly a numbers game, my chance of success was less than 5 percent but my co-ordinatior in Cyprus always said you just need one golden egg.
If your heart wants it, then don’t give up until you are truly ready.
Update: 10dp2dt and still negative. My period is due any time between yesterday and tomorrow, and possibly up until Saturday. My ODT is the 14th (14dpt), but I’ve seen many people who are at 2dt being given an ODT of 16/17dpt, so I just don’t know what to think at this point. 🤷♀️ I felt a pulling in my lower abdomen for the first 4dpt, as if I’d done a load of sit ups, but nothing since. I’m starting to lose hope tbh. 😕 x
