Hello, does anyone have any recommendations for supplements which are a must when trying to conceive and IVF?
I’ve heard those in the ‘It starts with the egg’ is worth a read.
I’ve done the ovulation strips for over a year and it hasn’t worked. I am now considering IVF in the new year so would love to know if there are supplements that are a must? Is Impryl any good? For reference we are F 30 M 31 unexplained infertility. We’ve been trying naturally for 2 years, nothing. Thank you all!

Have a look at our website fertiltynetworkuk.org for information about all aspects of fertility issues [ see Learn about Fertility esp Conception tips ] and emotional support [ Access Support to find a Regional group near you ] Make sure both you and your OH are as fit as you both can be - healthy weight - non smokers - take regular exercise [ see Learn about fertility for more info ] Most important that you are taking Folic Acid 400mcg daily while ttc - Vitamin C-D and E also important For your OH maybe a wellman vitamin [ can be bought at health food shop ]
Hi Shepli! I used impryl + DHEA 75mg for 3+ months, as suggested by my consultant - I have low AMH of 2.2. I had only 1 egg retrieved in my first IVF cycle (which did not fertilised), and 5 with my second (4 fertilised, and 2 good quality embryos at day 5). So a big improvement. Not sure if all was because of these supplements, but yes, it worked for me. I am currently 14 weeks pregnant 🥰 best of luck!
Congratulations! Can you tell me if you are in the uk? It’s just I have asked about dhea at my clinic and they said no. Not sure why but I did read it’s not as available here. Many thanks 😊
Hello. Yes, I am in the UK, in Liverpool. DHEA is illegal here in the UK, but you can buy it easily online (I bought it via iHerbs). My consultant recommended here as miraculous for a short period of time, loads of research about it (al least 3 months, and less than 1 year due to possible adverse effect such as oily skin, or extra hair grow).
Thanks so much for your reply. I have had a similar story to you by the sounds of it! Think it’s definitely worth a try then. My amh was 3.6 and had low numbers at egg collection and failed transfer from day 5 (poor quality) but not got age on my side as just turned 42. Will have a look on that website and get some ordered. Last question if you don’t mind from someone with little ivf experience so sorry if it sounds stupid. Would the dhea help with egg equality or the number of eggs? Thanks again x
Yes, it should help with both, egg quality and numbers! I had only one at first round, which did not fertilised, and 5 at second, and 4 fertilised. This resulted in two good quality embryos at day 5: one 5AB (resulted in my pregnancy) and one 5BB (currently frozen).Best of luck to you, I cannot say it definitely will work, but with me I had a massive improvement from first to second cycle! Saying this though, I am not sure if there any particular criteria for it, and my consultant recommended it for my situation!
that’s absolutely fantastic the improvement and so pleased you still have one frozen. I’m definitely going to ask about it again as a friend of mine many years ago did the same as you and was successful after a similar outcome. Wishing you the best of luck and a huge thanks for your help and advice x
Hi ! Yes as a retired midwife & fertility awareness educator there are essential vitamins like vit C Vit E ,zinc ,vit B12 & folate which can prevent miscarriages, improve sperm quality & chances of conception..
just be careful with taking DHEA yourself without consulting a doctor. It stopped my periods. I can’t start my next round of IVF until they come back and it could be months to get out of my system apparently 🙈
