Do I need PICSI and MACS if I am havibg PGS testing?

Hi ladies, would I benefit from picsi and MACS if we are already having PGS? We have been advised to do PGS but had already planned for picsi and macs. We are planning to have our treatment abroad and it's all more affordable than in the UK. Many thanks

Hi koko!

Yes, I would still have those even with pgs.

PICSI and macs select the best looking and less likely sperm to have dna issues.

That will, in theory, give you a higher probability of genetically normal embryos.

When you later do the PGS you are likely to have a higher number of embryos approved because they selected the best sperm they could find.

This is usually more useful for men with poor quality sperm.

My husband had borderline results on EC day and the doctor recommended picsi and Macs.

I got 8 blastos, and I’m convinced that it helped

Thank you very much Cat. I wasn't sure if it would be "too much" and counter productive. We definitely want to do everything we can to get the best results. Just need to change our plans as pgs testing takes a while so it would be FET. It's our 1st IVF so learning everyday! X

Best of luck xx

I would also recommend MACS. First round we got no blastocysts (because of high sperm fragmentation) and in the second round we got one. I am convinced it is because of MACS.

MACS will give you better odds of normal embryos when you do PGS testing.

Xx
