I'm feeling a little nervous especially as my OH can't come with me. Any advice or experiences shared to help rest my mind?

Thanks x

Take pain killers before. I didn't and i should have but no one told me. Its bearable.

Take pain killers an hour before, mine was slightly uncomfortable but not painful. The staff talk you through everything and you get to watch on a screen as they put the dye through xx

Hi there, I took paracetamol before mine and it was a little bit more uncomfortable than a smear test, like period cramps, but nothing painful. I found the radiation contraption they used more disconcerting than the procedure itself. They should talk to you through it all to keep you informed and distracted, which helped to keep me calm.

On another note make sure you take your own panty liner for afterwards so you don't have to use the hospital ones - which are huge!! :)

Hope it goes ok for you and you get the all clear xx

Hello :) I agree with the other girls. Mine was mostly just uncomfortable at first then a feeling similar to bad period cramps (which is a strange feeling with your legs lying open lol) but the worst of it was over before I had time to think about it too much. There were 3 people in the room with me which i was wasn't expecting but the doctor was so lovely and I'm sure yours will be too, talked me through the procedure before and during and I got my results on the day. It is a quick procedure so you will be done before you know it. I was quite emotional after mine which I hadn't anticipated but i think I was jus feeling overwhelmed to be finally getting the tests we had been waiting on. Best of luck, you'll be one step closer to the end goal after tomorrow xx

I'm waiting to get this test done also. Thank you posting as I have the same worries too. I didn't know to take painkilkers so thanks ladies for that tip!! Waiting times where I live are dreadful, I waited 4 months for a referral to even be considered for a HSG and now for the past 3 months I've rang the hospital on the 1st day of my period only to be told they are booked up and to ring again next month!! So frustrating! Hopefully next month I can actually get given an appointment to get the darn thing done x

I had my HSG this morning. I was given 2 diff types of antibiotics to start taking the day before (just to stop infections) so take those, defo take painkillers before hand, sorry to say but mine was painful (I know everyone's different) my oh came with me and they do recommend someone to go with you incase you don't feel up to driving home but even though it was painful during and uncomfortable after I could've drove home if I needed to. Yes bring your own pad as I did. It's a straightforward procedure, I had 2 people in mine, radiographer (I think!) And assistant! You can see the scan on a screen next to you unless like me your eyes were squeezed closed due to pain 😂 and you do get the results there and then and they'll be sent to your consultant also, think I'm a special breed as I had one of my tubes removed due to an ectopic rupturing (hence the HSG) but the lady doing the scan said it looked like my tube is still there 🙈 so slightly confusing and this could also be why it was more painful for me. They are very nice and reassuring though talking you through every step. Hope you get good results 😀 xx sorry for the long reply 🙈

Wishing you loads of luck for your HSG today. Everyone is different - they had to attempt mine 3 times before it worked properly so mine was a little painful. The staff will be great I'm sure at talking you through & distracting you as best they can. It will be over before you know it xxxx
