I need to lose another stone then we qualify for ivf on nhs. Finding it difficult Could my struggle be linked with fear of failure?

Are you getting some support with addressing these questions and upport. There are fertiity counsellors whoch may be able to help with your fear of failure, as you will want to be in the bet place when you start treatment.

No I dont not sure who to contact my husband cant understand but he is not the one that will be prodded and poked and after all that it may not work I already feel a failure and that is before anything starts I really could do with some help

Hi, thanks for responding, well don for reaching out that's the first step. Your clinic may be able to recommend a counsellor, they should have one you are able to access. Or check out bica.net to find a counsellor close to you. Mine really helped me with techniques to deal with the treatment and emotions that go with the treatment outcomes and infertility in general.

Hiya,

I can truelly empathise with you there

I was told I have to loose more than 2 stone before we qualify. They gave me 3 months in which to do it.!! My appointment is in 2 weeks time and I've yet to reach my target weight.. But this last stone is truelly killing me. Don't get me wrong I've not found the other stones easy (lost some before first appointment) but my partner is a personal trainer so you'd think it would have been easier in a way. But I'm at the point where I'm exhausted physically and mentally from both the stress of trying to loose weight and thinking even if I loose all this weight will it work! My partner keeps going on that it's making me healthier, and not to do it just because of the ivf- but that just makes it worse!!! I have a fear of hospitals and that in itself panics me, but the fear of having to take meds that might make me feel unlike me, possible operations and just general feeling of being out of control all for it not to work worries me the most.

We haven't been offered counselling yet but will take it if and when they do, but at the moment I'm looking into fertility counselling near where we live.,as I think any support, even if it's through talking on here with others in the same situation helps.

I wish you the very best of luck on your journey .

Your welcome. I felt overwhelmed by the process, yet with the added pressure that I had to loose weight. Exercise has helped me with my stress levels, also after running on the flipping treadmill I'm to exhausted to think let alone worry!!! But glad your going to try get some support, I shall be asking when I go back next week.

I phoned the clinic yesterday and spoke with the secretary She didn't think that there is any but she was going to ask She wanted to know if the gp has referred me to a dietitian and I said no as my problems are not what I am eating but lack of exercise I also explained how I was feeling

Even if I can just comunicate ny email with a counsellor Why does it have to wait till we start ivf

I am actually enjoying going to the gym didn't think I would

Glad your enjoying the gym, makes a difference when you enjoy it. Hope the weightloss is going ok.

It's a shame about the counselling. Just seems unfair if you know you will be receiving ivf that you have to wait till you start. It's all the questions before hand I think and the uncertainty of it all is when you need support, not just when your having treatment. Have you asked your own GP about counselling? Lots of doctors have an in house counsellor who comes in to the surgery once a week etc. even though they are not trained in fertility counselling they may still be able to talk things through with you.there might be a short waiting list, but it might be worth asking about.

Thats quite funny about my surgery and counselling. Anything that is gonna cost my surgery any money they are very reluctant to use. When the clinic sent a letter to the surgery suggesting to them to refer me to a dietitian they sent me a letter to come in and see the nurse. Luckily I wasn't to keen on the dietitian idea as my issues were not food related but exercise. Anyway I am continuing with the gym and watching the food I am eating. Hope your weight loss is going well

Typical doctors hey, mine is exactly the same. Usually I just except things and leave however I have a partner that will literally sit there till they do something, if they don't he starts gettin louder and louder till eventually they give him what he wants!mind you if I was them I would too, just to get rid of him!

My clinic literally said in October I needed to loose a certain amount in 3 months and they would see me again to see if I had done it. Didn't offer for me to see a dietian or anyone else..I haven't managed to reach my target but appointment is on Wednesday! And if they tell me I haven't tried hard enough I think I shall walk out! Last couple of weeks I have been suffering with chest pains and finally went to see someone today and apparently I'm doing too much exercise! So been told to take a couple of days off and recoup! And back off to see a GP tomoz so I can get a chest x-ray... So not impressed!

Well good luck with your appointment. I cant imagine that they can turn round and tell you that you have not been trying as you obviously have.

Not what you're looking for?
