I'm doing egg share ivf. Is it worth me freezing my half of eggs? What will it help me with the second time if first isn't successful ? X
Hi stellawaddingham. I assume you mean freezing any embryos created from your egg collection? If this is the case, then should you choose to freeze them, they can be kept for up to 10 years. Many successful pregnancies are achieved from using thawed, stored frozen embryos, so I feel it is always best to save what you can. Most couples choose to use their embryo(s) fresh first, then use up frozen ones when ready to do so. Should you choose to use any frozen embryos, then usually you do not have to go through all the stimulation process and use loads of drugs. They are often transferred on a natural cycle. Although freezing techniques have greatly improved, it seems that using frozen embryos is more successful than using frozen eggs, as they have to be stored, de frosted and then fertilised. I do wish you well with whatever you decide to do. Diane
Thank you for your knoledge. I'm giving half my eggs away so wasn't sure if ide have that many worth freezing after giving some away x
Hi stellawaddingham. Obviously, it all depends on the result of your egg collection. Hopefully if you respond well to your stimulation drugs, you may have two or three embryos to freeze if their quality it OK. There would be a storage charge for this, approx £300 per year, and they can be stored for up to ten years. Even if you move away, arrangements can be made to transfer your embryos when you are ready for their use. No need for so many drugs either! Fingers crossed for you. Diane
Had my councilling appointment and I was told that I'm young enough right now to not freeze eggs and she also said allot of frozen eggs don't work. Plus I'm giving eggs away so may not have a many to freeze x
