Hi Everyone,

Scarring, or fibrosis, in the liver is what causes its stiffness. Correct?

Also, is fibrosis what causes a high kPa score?

Yes, scar is less flexible than normal tissue and as it ages it shrinks a bit after it is matured into its stable triple helix form. Very tough at that stage, but the earlier stages can be dissolved by the body if you manage inflammation. Those processes are what the FibroScan measures indirectly and it is reported in kPa which is the speed that a pressure wave moves through the tissue. It goes faster in a stiffer organ.

Hi Wayne, can you please explain how to manage inflammation?

Hi Lusitania

for me it was diet related. Elimination of saturated fats, increasing my intake of unsaturated fat, lean protein (no red meat), lots of salads, no sugar or fructose. You can read more about it here if you want to follow up.
