Other is fasting induces autophagy. Autophagy is the natural, regulated mechanism of the cell that removes unnecessary or dysfunctional components. It allows the orderly degradation and recycling of cellular components. Three forms of autophagy are commonly described: macroautophagy, microautophagy, and chaperone-mediated autophagy.

This is a really good point Ashka9 as autophagy is purifying and protecting us. 😊

Hi Jerry

Another good poll.

I've chosen better health, lower cholesterol and self control. Although I don't fast, well not yet, I can see the benefits.

When I wasn't well last week after being served caffeine instead of decaffeinated coffee I only ate a cereal bar and banana that day and have to say I felt better very quickly, quicker than I would normally recover.

If I have a day where I don't eat much on purpose I feel energised.

I do feel that it does take self control though which we could all do with.

Thanks Alicia, I'm the same if I have an upset stomach I let it settle down.

You are so right about self control as we have been bombarded with adverts to make us consume more and more.

I hope that you're enjoying your holiday. 😀

in reply to

It does make you feel so much better giving your tummy a break.

Yes we're bombarded all the time on TV, through the letterbox buying a newspaper etc.

I'm having a lovely time thank you.😀

It gives some pain relief to joint pain. Seems to be by about 50%

in reply toBaddieThePirate

Hey thats good, it's not good that you're in pain in the first place so I'm sorry about that. Jerry. 😊

Hey thats really nice that fasting makes you 'joie de vivre' so good for you. 😊

I don’t do it very often but I think it’s a good idea to give yourself a break from eating, I enjoy eating two meals a day and think I could on most days eat one meal a day. My husband doesn’t like me skipping meals and he like to share the dining experience after all these years and the fact there is only the two of us it’s still a sociable thing we do.

Maybe it's something to do with microbiom. It'll be exciting to see what the researchers come up with in the next few years. A friend with rheumatoid arthritis or fibromyalgia told me to try it. I can't fast massively coz I have to take my pills with food. If I don't take them I can't move so it's a balance.

Hi Jerry, Another great poll! Thanks

I'll go for Better health and Weight loss. The two go hand-in-hand.

My Other is less food shopping, less cooking and, the most important, less washing up. I hate washing up even though we have a dishwasher. It's such a chore to put everything in and then take them out to put them in again later in the day ;)

in reply to

Thanks Hidden it's interesting the chores we dislike the most, I dislike peeling vegetables like carrots the most. I have a dishwasher but tend to wash up as I go along. 😊

I ticked everything apart from muscle gain and lower cholesterol because I'm not sure if they are affected significantly by fasting. I ticked other, because I think that fasting changes your relationship with food. It also acts as a reset button for your ability to sense hunger.

in reply toMTCee

Hi MTCee I think that changing our relationship with food is a very important aspect of fasting and you're right we recognise when we are really hungry. 😊

The reason I put other is, because it's never appealed to me.

But years ago when I was ill, I had to live on amino acids only for two weeks, then introduce foods gradually to see how my body accepted them
