Hi. I have suffered a bad trauma impact to my jaw (fell off an electric scooter into a canal and hit my face of a wooden bridge). I have had X-rays and my jaw is not broken but there was a lot of swelling. My teeth went through my bottom lip also. The swelling has gone down a lot but since the accident, 6 days ago, I have had a patch of numbness from the corner of my lip down to my jaw. I cant smile or talk properly. My lips are tingly. The numbness is both inside and outside. The dr said don’t worry, I’m sure it will come back when the swelling goes down. The swelling is down but no change. What do I do? Is it too soon? Should I see my gp now? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you all.

I am so sorry for what you’re going through! If it were me, I would see additional doctors. I think you’ll be glad later that you did... wouldn’t want you to later hear from one that ‘it’s too late’ . Just my opinion, but I think it would be worth the cost...

So sorry about your accident! I had my second surgery on Oct. 8th on my wrist, and my thumb and fore finger is numb and my ortho said that it shouldn't be numb but didn't say any more about it. I go back in November, anxious to see what he says about it. If I were you, I'd give it more time, but that's just my opinion. Hope you get better soon!

I would ask the GP to refer you to a specialist facial palsy unit. They can help if recovery is slower or more difficult
