My nearly 3 year old hates pooing away from home and has always held it in. It's never progressed to more than 3/5 days at a time so not been much of an issue but was told to use lactulose when that happens. (Never made any difference tbh(
We've now moved in with family for a few months while my husband is away and it's every 4/5 days, dancing around, clearly avoiding the urge every few hours it comes. She's so much happier when it comes and is never in pain while passing. It just doesn't seem like regular constipation. High fibrous diet, plenty of water. All seems psychological?

Sorry to hear of your little one’s struggles. It’s common.
I’d suggest developing routines around bowel movements, such as sitting on the toilet 20 mins after a meal for around 20 mins. You can read stories or watch the iPad etc. This gets your child sitting at a time when their body will be getting ready for a bowel movement. If you’re using a potty you can just do this somewhere quiet whenever you’re on the go. We had a portable toilet seat that we took on holidays so my daughter could sit & watch the iPad. We found that this helped her stay regular despite new settings.
