Natural approach to stool holding

Hi all, 1st time poster here. Not usually an online poster but desperation calls! My daughter is 3 and a half and i think has been either constipated or stool holding since about 2 years of age. We have dabbled with osmolax (peg) on and off and saw a paeds gastroenterologist who advised just continue with that and regular sitting. I found she had no control on the osmolax so have been off it for 2 months. The last few weeks we have been having prunes and porridge every morning and pear juice. She is pooing alot! Like 2 big soft bowel movements most days plus some smearing. Alot of hiding, never in the potty or toilet- will poo in undies, nappy or just whenever but not in the potty or toilet... Weeing in hiding spots or on the carpet too. Feel like we r going backwards but dont think she is constipated. Do i really need to get her back on tbe osmolax??? Read some concerning articles it isnt safe for kids or long term use... sorry to all that are having simular probs. Seems like an ongoing nightmare in our house and im fearing its going to go on forever... thanks in advance.

Hi I would go back to your gp to raise your concerns also your hv. Sorry not much advice but it is a nightmare in our house too.its horrible for them to have to deal with this.my lg is nearly four years going school September still in nappies as she lost all her feelings down below. She also hides when she wee or poos.

So frustrating.

Thanks Misty. Yes i always have to remind myself its happening to her and not me. Can get very frustrating which only makes things worse ive been reffered to a continence nurse so fingers crossed they have some advice for me.. all the best for u and your daughter.
