have a 13 year old son who's had constipation for many years he is now on cosmocal sachets , did the 8 a day to clear him out building over days as suggested , now he's on one a day, however he is emptying his bowels as he sleeps or leaking lots I'm not to sure . Its not a nice awaking for him. Is this normal ? should I just go with this for a few weeks , I am thinking it could be still some of the hardened stuff clearing through after impactation ? would love some advice . He has suffered since he was 7 and we go round in what seems like circles . Determined to see it through this time he does get bullied a little as often leaks at school (dry poo previously now its more soggy for want of better wording) , some days I could cry for him. thanks in advance for any advice

My son is 13 and had problems since birth. He didn't have a proper formed poo until he was 9. Very let down until that point. Currently relapsing and it's hell. So worried about his mental state and education and having to fight all the way. My son's appears to be physical rather than behavioural. Happy to pm if you like It is worth checking the leaking you're talking about isn't due to him still being impacted xx
I think that's a lot of the issue it comes and goes , good days , bad days ....... right now touch wood we are 3 days leak free at night and day time is just a odd bit I think perhaps he doesn't check as often resulting in a little staining !! I'm hoping it continues they seem to give you the cosmocal and leave you to it, the consultant is suppose to recall him but its been 8 weeks since seeing her so I'm guessing it will be probably a 6 month recall. Doctors as its non emergency is around 3 weeks to get an appointment , never know if I'm doing right or wrong been here so many times . My son was fine from birth til around 7 then starting holding it and it got worse from there. I also worry on his mental state and education , although the school are helping regarding missed time etc . ( my daughter who is now 30 suffered similar but grew out of it and we found citrus made her worse she avoided that and has been fine even through adult life)
we have tried many changes with my son , dairy stopped, wheat etc all one by one for and none of them seemed to make a difference so its just a mental thing he needs to overcome . Really think there should be more emotional support for them especially at the age they are now its tough enough for some to deal with just the natural changes in life x
