mood swings

Hi JanJo
some people with epilepsy notice changes to their mood and behaviour and there can be a few reasons for this.
It can sometimes happen as part of a seizure or just after a seizure (epilepsy.org.uk/info/seizures). And it can happen as the side effect of some epilepsy medicines (epilepsy.org.uk/info/treatm....
We also know that things like low mood can happen more often with epilepsy ( epilepsy.org.uk/living/heal...
Our advice if this is happening to you is to speak to your epilepsy doctor or nurse about having a review to talk through what you're noticing. You'd also be welcome to ring and talk things through with us at the Helpline on 0808 500 5050 (epilepsy.org.uk/support-for...
It can be really helpful to share support and information so I hope you hear from others here. You might be interested to know we have other online services as well.

Hi JanJo
I became very aggressive and had bad mood swings, and irritable when I was on Zonisamide. They really affected my mental health. I was weaned off them and was put on briveracetam which side effects are a lot better to cope with.
