hi I have been an epileptic sufferer for 26 years, had my first seizure the age of 9, had many different medications over the years, I get bad times where I can't sleep cause of having hand spasms and I'm too scared to sleep so there has been times where I've been prescribed a weeks worth of sleeping tablets. Had a seizure back in May lasted 16 seconds body jerking, took me about a minute to regain my speech and get up. I have noticed low sugar levels set off my hand spasms, which are a warning for me when a seizure is likely to happen. Haven't been diagnosed with diabetes, but something still clearly isn't right with my medication even after being told to take a new medication along side my current one.

epilepsy & low blood sugars
Do you live in the UK?
Hi Laura,
Good morning ! So sorry to hear all that you have been through and the fear you have experienced!
I joined this forum when I was researching for my daughter having experienced out of the blue epilepsy! At 20 , now going on21.
She has had trauma and stress before that
So I really thought it has been a cause for that to happen.
She is vegetarian, and at the time she was barely eating a good diet, and when she has been sick her blood test showed potassium magnesium and calcium all over the place!
So I thought the reason was an electrolyte imbalance!
After that we are following an optimal diet
She seems much better! I definitely think there is a correlation between sugar and epilepsy! Even if you don’t have diabetes! Is worth to check your sugar level!
Also I am worried that might been something due to thyroid problems?! We definitely going to look into that!
Follows an healthy diet rich in fibre for optimal health is worth to do! And exercise regurarly.
I’ll keep to update my findings !
For now all the best and keep healthy with a positive mind!
