Ketogenic diet ....

Hi,

Do any adults take the ketogenic diet? If so why did you/or neurol choose it? I can't find much info about it apart from for children

All info would help or weblinks for adults

Thanks :)

Hi Iona

At present, the ketogenic diet is not used for adults with epilepsy in the UK. However, doctors are doing some research to see if this would be possible in the future.

For information on the ketogenic and Atkins modified diet for adults with epilepsy please view this link.

I’m just about to put the following information on HealthUnlocked. It’s a new study in Japan that has identified a drug that may help people with epilepsy whose seizures don't respond to medication. The drug changes the energy supply to the brain – effectively mimicking the ketogenic diet

epilepsy.org.uk/news/news/k.... But the drug they refer to, Stiripentol, isn’t yet licensed for adults in the UK. It’s only licensed for certain children with very specific types of epilepsy. I hope you find this information both helpful and informative.
