For information on Epilepsy Smart- Monitor, go to smart-monitor.com

It is a wrist band that looks a bit like a fully functioning smart watch phone but with the technology to detect and alert help via mobile phone technology.

The way forward I think is to use the technology already used for blood pressure and sleep apps, in sports wrist band data collection and also the research undertaken for a sweat-sensing wristband which detects electric impulses in the skin. Go to: newscientist.com/article/dn...

Epdetect have an app but I have no idea if this is scientifically tested and they haven't yet trialed it on smart watches, only a few normal androids.

Hi there - I'm not sure if you mean the actual "Smart Monitor" or the kind of device I had fitted in my house when I lived alone which monitored my movements if I went from Vertical to horizontal very quickly and then alerted the carer base etc etc. This device was installed for me by my local council services and I paid a token amount to have it in the house - I can't remember how much but fairly insignificant. I don't know the price of the Smart Monitor but I do know that it can only be used in conjunction with a Smart Phone so if you don't already have a Smart phone then the total price could be quite hefty!!! Don't know if this helps.

To Lesmal - the Smart Monitor takes the form of a wrist band that sends a message to an app on a Smart phone. I have never had one due to the cost of even the Smart phone itself!!! - my budget wouldn't stretch to it unfortunately!

Don't know if any of this helps

For SmartWatch availability and pricing contact them via email info@smart-monitor.com

They have two models, and the last time I checked it was something like £500.00+ - too pricy for me but then if you can afford it, is it too pricy if it saves a life?

The benefit is that it has gone through rigorous testing and is supported by epilepsy organisations over there. Very expensive which is why I was interested in the research into wrist bands that detect electrical impulses in the skin along with blood pressure etc. The trouble with spending a great deal of money on these products is that the technology quickly becomes obsolete.

If you call the number on the website they'll walk you through it. Here in the US they told me there is an up-front cost for the the actual watch but it's modest (<$100). The part that is more costly is the monthly subscription. You have to pay monthly for them to keep the watch activated so that if you have a seizure it will activate and notify the numbers you choose (and give the GPS location if you pay extra). I believe it was about $25/mo to keep it active. A lot less than what others have said, so maybe I'm looking at the wrong piece of technology. This is what I'm thinking of: smart-monitor.com/ Good luck!
