Night Seizures

The night seizures I have when they start go on for weeks, then they stop and stay away for weeks. Of course they return at some and start again.

The seizures are muscular and only last a few seconds, but they can go on through the night.

Usually they start as soon as I try to relax on the bed.

Does anyone have something like this?

Yup and seems common. One of the reasons certain aromatherapy oils are not recommended for epileptics due to their relaxing effects eg Lavender is one.

Hi, yes I tend to get what I understand are night seizures. I was told by one neurologist that they are "not real", that they are "sensations" in the brain..., something which I did not buy, because they are pretty real to me! They tend to occur just when I nod off to sleep, and I think I start dreaming, because in my dream I feel the seizure, if that makes any sense, I feel it as a 'tightening' of my whole person and I cant breathe, I feel, and the tightening gets more intense in my brain/head, and I feel I have to force myself to wake up in order to avoid this tightening sensation from increasing in intensity (which in the moment of it find it very frightening and even feel it life threatening), so I force myself to wake up, and as soon as I wake up it stops, but I am left with a kind of headache and I dont feel good... If it was only a sensation and not actually real, then how would I have the after effect of a headache? But like you say the tendency for them to occur comes and goes in periods.

Sounds like they trained in the dark ages. All epilepsy is sensations and/or mis-firing nerves in the brain.

user1234,

Your post and reply to this post is a bit of a relief because I have very same breathing thing at night plus a feeling of itch/crawling over the skin with random twitch in hands and legs at nights and I've been told this and other symptoms are "Just stress and anxiety caused by your situation". So as this came not only from a GP but also a Neurologist (with special interest in epilepsy) I was beginning to think I was some kind of hypochondriac with an over vivid imagination!

When first given diagnoses of epilepsy all I got from the neurologist was "Ah! That's classic complex partial seizures" then drug issue and said "I'll let you and your GP adjust the dosage till suits". No referral to any groups or guidance until I went to Frenchay where the consultant surgeon I saw advised me to research the Epilepsy Society leaflets in reception area. Thank god for at least a direction to look for support.

Yes I suffer from Sleep Seizures and also get a sharp stabbing pain in my left side of my temple. Also I have Muscular attacks it takes my wife and my daughter to hold me down as I get violent attacks. Also wake up with bad Headaches when I awake. The drs are very good at saying what the problem isn't but not what the problem is. I have had tests for Parkinsons, Tumours, because I constantly shake even while relaxing. Can anyone tell me what tests they have had if they have had any of the symptoms........
