Anyone ever had any problems, rash et... - Epilepsy Research...
Anyone ever had any problems, rash etc with Keppra.
Hi Trevor, am not on Keppra but Carbamazapine and Phenytoin. Most AED's cause some sort of skin reaction. I have found the two I am on cause an allergy but they are suitable and control my epilepsy now. I have been on these two for several years, and if the rash is serious I then take an antihistamine tablet daily. I have an allergy to wheat, dairy and protein but find antihistamines help with most allergies. If not, then perhaps find another medication that might be good for your type of epilepsy.
Hi Lesmal
Just got back from epilepsy specialist, She wants me to stop taking Mysoline which i have bben on for 56 yrs. Also referred me to a dermatologist about my skin condition. I am a bit wary about coming off Mysoline having been on it for so long but shall have to see what happens.
Hi Trevor,
Good to hear maybe Mysoline might be causing the problem. I understand your wariness about stopping it, but if it helps then give it a go. One never knows till one tries. Dermatologists are very expensive here in South Africa and I can't afford to see one. If you manage to do so, let me know the outcome. Hang in there!
Yes that is one of my wife's allergies is Kendra. They put her on Depakote and it seems to be working. I would advise not to take keppra if its causing a rash and consult your physician asap
Thank you for your response drew. I still think it is keppra that is causing it all and so does my DR. But epilepsy specialist is adamant that it isn`t so just waiting now for appt to see dermatologist. My own doc gave me a course of steroids, THey have helped, it has cleared it, not totally but seems to be coming back again this last day or so. Just have to see what happens.
