I've been on Epanutin for about 35 years, so could it be the cause of an itchy rash after such a long time?
Hi, one can be allergic to one's medication, but if you have been on Epanutin for 35 years, I don't see this happening now all of a sudden. I battle with allergies, if its not to chemicals, then its to food, if not to food, certain materials affect me and more. Allergies can depend on whether it is also in ones genes, i.e. hereditary, as in the case of my family. Allergies can be caused by just about anything, so it's hard to say off hand. Perhaps speak to your doctor, or make contact with a dermatologist for skin testing for allergies.
I had to take epanutin for many years, and I didn't suffer any side effects from it.
I have been on Epanutin f0 yrs and had no problems with it. I now take 100mg Lamotrogine with it and am fine. I have mylevels checked regularly, and if too high my doctor reduces it by 50mg to see how i progress, and then after a couple of months they are done again, and the problem is sorted. I feeel, that at 62rs old, I am ok, so don't fix what's not broken
Ive no idea bit i came off that dru
g about 40 yrs ago I'd check with your dr it isn't worth changing now?
lesmal and Talbot, many thanks for your replies. They're both rather what I thought myself so it's good to have the reassurance. tims girl, thanks also, the doctor didn't have a clue last week, but today I've had a series of blood tests, so now we wait to see if they reveal anything.
I am on epanutin and have been for over 30 years(also sodium valproate). It has just been recently that my drug levels have gone up over what they should be. I have now been referred to an epilepsy clinic(havent been to one for over 30 years) as I am getting signs of toxicity which are interfering with my life.
So I suppose it makes me wonder, why now? I think we dont know how our bodies are going to change over the years.
Just when everything seems to be going smoothly, this has to happen! I admit to being really anxious about this. The blood test shows too high a reading and my GP, who is new and has never met me before, has simply told me to dock 50mg off the daily dose. Does a GP understand enough about this subject or should I push to see a neurologist?
I guess he thinks this will bring your reading down, but at the same time he should get you to have some more blood tests to keep an eye on it. But if you are concerned perhaps you could ask to be referred.Good luck
