Probably would depend on what your bowel symptoms are, but personally I have found kefir to be pretty nice in the guts. I've had terrible stabbing pains since having a lapro & mirena 8 weeks ago, and my surgeon suggested it was a sluggish bowel due to the hormones. A bit of kefir and some ryvita and I finally got a bit of 'relief' from that 
I also know someone who has IBS like symptoms after a bowel resection, and she said bio-active yoghurt did help with managing that.
