Post Laparoscopy Pain: Bowel & Bladder

Hi everyone,

I had a laparoscopy just over 2 weeks ago to remove an ovarian cyst. They discovered that I had grade 3 endo in the Fallopian tube so removed it. I’m pretty sure they said it was starting to attach to the bladder.

I had no idea I had endo until the op so my understanding isn’t great yet.

After the op, I had a lot of pain from wind but that eased once I’d got home. I’ve since developed excruciating pain on bowel movements, from wind and sometimes, when weeing (although not every time).

A couple of times, I’ve also had the feeling that I haven’t fully ‘gone’ so had to go again a little while later (for both).

I’m starting to panic a bit as this pain is truly awful while it’s happening (I’m not in pain at other times). It’s new for me - I didn’t have it before the op - and it’s developed over the last week or so, rather than being immediately after the op. I did see my doctor at the start of it and he said it was normal but I’m reading things online that say it’s a complication.

Can anyone give any advice at all? Did this happen for you? Thank you in advance x

Hi, I know you said you’ve seen your dr but if I was you I would go again/go to out of hours/call your surgeons secretary for further advice because you didn’t have this before the op, just to ease your mind if nothing else. You know your body and when something isn’t right. I am 6 weeks post lap and I am yet to have a pee or poo that doesn’t hurt so I can totally relate to how you feel. I however did suffer from this before, but mainly/worst around my ‘period’ time. It was also confirmed that I have endo on bladder that could not be removed and my ovary was freed from my bowel so my GP said it was likely I’m still healing. It also hurts more if my poo is more solid. I hope you feel better soon xxx

Thank you so much for replying. I did have a little discomfort before but nothing like this. You have put my mind at rest a bit - although I get what you’re saying about it being new pain. My guess is that everything’s been moved about & irritated so it’s to be expected. But if it continues, I think I’ll go back to the doctor. Thank you. I hope it stops for you too: it’s vile, isn’t it?! X
