Hi I had encephalitis 4 moths ago and at xmas time started getting insomnia, i could deal with it although was a pain in the arse but last weekend I was on a lads break and since I've been back hardly slept a wink as every time I close my eyes I have a million thoughts running through my head and even when I do nod off its for half an hour at a time which isn't great as I work on my feet all day , since I came back from the weekend away had a bad couch and diarrhoea so might have picked up a small virus ,just looking for advice on how to get and have a good sleep because it's mental torture .
Thanks Craig

Hi Craig. Sleep is a problem a lot of us have. We were discussing insomnia in the Encephalitis International charity’s north west zoom meeting this week. Two of us have found that taking magnesium at bedtime has helped . I bought ‘Magnesium from glycinate’ 300mg from Amazon , as it had good reviews on there, and glycinate is meant to be gentler to your stomach. I take it half an hour before I go to bed .
Try googling ‘magnesium for insomnia’, as it is taken by many people with insomnia. I can’t guarantee it will work for you, as your brain is still in the very early stages of encephalitis recovery, but it’s worth a try .
