Hi, I’ve been a little alarmed at the medication I’m on, this regime was prescribed when I was in hospital last year in November. I’m on pregablin and duloxeteine, amongst other pills and I’ve been reading up on people coming off these tablets, and everyone has said how hard it is to stop these tablets. This is yet another ripple affect of contracting this illness. Sorry if it sounds like I’m venting

Hi Jacobscedars, ever since I have had encephalitis way back in 1977, I have been on different medications ever since. I hope I can be of some help to you. What other medications are you taking and are they for neuropathic pain, seizures/epilepsy etc?

Thanks for your reply. I am on Duloxeteine (60 mg a day), for neuropathic pain, pregablin, for pain as well (150 mg ) - I think. I also take Sertraline. My main concern is Pregablin and Duloxeteine as I’ve heard they’re both abit of a nightmare to come off them. Thankyou

I can understand you wantimg to come off Pregabalin, and its a good job its a low dose. I had to stop taking it (for OCD) it was used in combination with my Escitalopram which belongs to the same group of drugs as Sertraline. I personally don't have neuropathic pain so I am not an expert on that but I recommend that you ask your neurologist first and ask them to change your medication to another one thats less addictive. I took Pregabalin for 7ytears but I must admit the side effects and withdrawal effects were horrible. I consulted my GP first though.

I have never heard of Duloxeteine.

I had quite bad pain when I was first diagnosed a year ago. I’ve heard the withdrawals are abit of a nightmare with pregablin but also with Duloxeteine- I’ll take it step by step

Oh I am so sorry to hear that Jacobscedars that you have been suffering with pains so long. It must be horrible.

Step by step is the best approach I would say by 25mg a time that s how gradual it needs to be. But always consult your prescriber first.

Its still early days though for you so recovery is a long GRADUAL process, but its not impossible. 🤗

Don't expect too much of yourself too soon.

I wish you the very best of luck with that! Please keep me posted how it goes.

Kind regards

Paula-38.

Thanks a lot - I’ll reduce the meds bit by bit. I am starting to come to terms that this is a long road.

Thanks for your help
