I know this is strange but I have an ongoing cough almost like a smokers cough and do not smoke. anyone else? My throat is sore quite a lot but doctors don't really do anything. May have to have an xray or something. Could also be damp in my house.

Cough
It's very common for people with ME/CFS to have sore throats and/or swollen glands. Try the usual cough remedies to see if it clears or helps sooth your throat. Ask the GP to take a look and see if you have a throat infection or anything along those lines as this could be causing the irritation.
Unfortunately I have found sore throats are a persistent symptom of ME/CFS but you soon get used to it! It is important to get it checked out though, in case there's another underlying issue.
The ME for me started after an extremely persistent chest infection and for the first quite a few years I had to clear my chest in the morning. It was as if my immune system knew that's where it started, so that's where it should continue fighting. Now, I do still get a cough, partly due to a tickle throat and partly due to ill timed muscle spasms.
However, if you have got a persistent cough, get it checked out. It's so easy just to put everything down to the ME. Make sure your GP doesn't do that either.
This might seem a strange question but how good is swallowing action. I often find a cough is started by food/tablets that get stuck in a sore throat. Information for doctor if you experience similar symptoms.
Yes I too have a persistent cough. I seem to have to have a good cough nearly every day and bring up stuff. My doctor checked out my chest and found no infection. We agreed that it's probably caused by being so sedentary. I am pretty much bedbound. Talking will trigger a coughing fit and sometimes after a meal I am coughing myself silly. Luckily I don't suffer from a persistent sore throat. But maybe, like me, your cough is caused by not being able to move about enough.
