I have had CT Scans, but never had to be sedated. Is there a reason for the sedation?

I have suffered dizziness in the past but nothing that affected me physically. As I tend to suffer panic attacks in confined spaces, I was sedated with a dose of diazepam.

I had a CT 2 days ago but was not sedated. My renal doctors would not permit the use of the tracer dye, due to my current condition therefore I had no problems.

It is not recommended that any one with renal disease have a contrast dye when having a scan due to the risk of damage to the kidneys. I have had many CT and MRI scans not using dye. But have never had sedation.

Best regards Christine

ah, I see. I have had CT, but don't know if I have had a tracer dye. Is it the one where they put something in half way through?

During a scan I had a reaction brought about by me being alergic to a "Contrast Dye" (Gadolinium) I had an Anaphlaxis shock, resulting in Cardiac arrest which required four attempts in order to be recucitated!

My hospital gets u to drink litre of water and 3 doses of a yellow fizzy tablet when I have a ct scan. It is supposed to counteract the damage caused by the dye. U shudnt get a reaction by sedation. Perhaps u should talk to your doc or consultant

Is tracer dye where they put it in through a little thing in your hand part way through the scan? If so then yeah I have although not with the sedation, as somebody else asked is there a reason you are getting sedated? If that is the type of dye you mean then I had no problems although it does make you feel like you need to urinate when it goes through your bladder which is wierd, especially if you're on dialysis and no longer 'pass water'! I'm sure you'll be fine :)

If you have kidney problems, you should NOT let anyone give you dye! It will decrease your function.
