I was just wondering if any of you have experience a kidney transplant. A friend of mine has been told they need a premtive one. I am just curious how long it will take him to bounce back from the operation and if there is anything I should look out for. It's just a bit scary!!!!

Transplant advice
Hi.ace79.
I was transplanted in january of this year the op went well noware as bad as i was exspecting .
i was up in a chair within 48 hours and on my feet walking around by day four home on day 12 and feeling alot more like my old self no more hemo no fluid restriction or diet its a fantastic gift and i havnt looked back..
Its like most things some people recover quicker than others you just never know!
I can only reiterate that we are all very different. I too was at home in 10 days and yes it's scary. There may well be bumps along the way but stay positive. I have never looked back ... 26 years post Tx.
Will let you know I'm having my preemptive Transplant on Thursday and it is scary as its my 3rd and they may have trouble fitting it in so won't know it I've actually had the kidney until I come round keeping everything crossed,......
Hi there, will be thinking of you on Thursday and trust all will go well. Last year I too was very nervous about spine surgery particularly as many people including medical and surgical consultants kept shaking their heads saying surgery is a last resort. It was a last resort but scary......However found a wonderful neuro-surgeon very laid-back and after over 5 hours in the theatre what an amazing success. 2 weeks following the surgery we went to a special birthday party and now back enjoying holidays and dancing.....On our recent holiday I danced with a gentleman who had a kidney transplant 3 months earlier and was thrilled with his new life......We wish you every success and next Spring may you dance through the tulips or something like the song goes.... love Belle x
