I had pain in my kidney like a few years ago, and had an infection that I ignored because I was too scared to go in and see the docs. Please if this carries on, go into the hospital and get it sorted before it gets worse! x

Hi

Very definitely yes, and much worse several times. My husband had very similar attacks and I thought he was having a stroke, we called an ambulance and the paramedics were also very concerned and rushed him into A & E where the medics there were also concerned. However the community renal nurse said she had seen similar attacks and after investigation it turned out she was right, it was a harmless effect of the vaso-vagal nerve having been stimulated, which caused my husband to experience a very intense sharp pain and then to virtually collapse, sweating, yellow etc as you say. The reason is that the body goes into a shut down reaction whenever the vaso vagal nerve is stimulated, it's a normal bodily reaction. The catheter can move around within the peritoneum and touch the nerve which causes the problem. Now my husband just lives with the possibility. One thing that has helped enormously is that he purchased a PD click belt which holds the catheter in place and as a result he hasn't had an attack since.

A further thought is that kidney infections and infections of the catheter cause similar symptoms.
