Has anyone used the easyreadsystem for their child's dyslexia?

I've happened across this website easyreadsystem.com and started the 10 day free trial.

It does seem quite expensive, so wondered if anyone has any experience of it.

No I haven't used that system before but I do you read and text which I find very helpful when I have to read through a lot of writeing on a computer srceen and typeing assginments this give me to hear if my work makes sense, spelling and gammer

Hi

Yes we used it when our son was in year 6 (10/11 years), he is now in year 8. I agree it is quite expensive, but I felt it was fairly good value compared to other things we had tried. Workbooks, Kumon and tutors did not work as he would not do the work in between. However with the Easy read system, he did something every day, even in the holidays.... I feel he was probably a bit old for it and wish we had tried it a bit earlier. He enjoyed most of the games and liked the prizes and the encouragement throughout the process, which took about 9 months.

There is always someone to talk to at Easyread, also they consider other things, such as eye tracking which may be causing problems. It helps if your child enjoys the system, as I feel it is important that they see progress themselves, you will probably know by the end of the trail.

Was it worth it - Yes, he reads much better, although he doesn't enjoy reading, other than the Wimpy kid books (the font is easier), so even now his progress is slow. His spelling is still his problem, he spells as he sounds and even if he rereads his work he doesn't necessarily see the errors. His school are working with him twice a week and we have a good relationship with them.

He has just been moved up a maths group which we are very proud of and his work is getting neater, even if the spellings need some work.

Hope this helps

Lou

My 8 yr old son and I have just completed this 7-9 month on-line course, and i can only say it's done what it said it would. My sone has learnt to decode words and it seems to have rewired his brain and how he reads and decodes. A fantastic paid for resource, which is why I guess you have not heard more from people on this site. We started last July and he learnt their picture alphabet in a week and his confidence began to grow from the second week. The gifts the kids receive when they pass a goal are really great to encourage them. He can now read as well as most kids in his class and his spelling is still a way to go but just the fact he can now cope with text and not be scared by it is amazing. His confidence is another thing -greatly improved and he even wants to read out loud in class. I found it worth every penny.

We've been doing EasyRead with our son (age 6) for just over two weeks and the SpellMagic (by same company) with daughter (age 8) for about 10 days. Both children love it. We came back from Easter hols after doing one week of EasyRead with son and we had unsolicited comments from his teacher, teaching assistant and head of learning support about how much our son's reading had improved over break. And we'd only done a few other workbook exercises and read only two actual books!!

His confidence has improved, he loves the prizes and he's really starting to feel like a "good reader". Suddenly he's doing is homework willingly rather than me having to talk him into it every afternoon.

Also, I sit with both children every day for the 10-15 min sessions... and am finding it very empowering to be "trained" along with them. For over a year I've felt quite helpless to support him... now we're all in this together. They LOVE fetching the post. The prizes are very good.

I'm enthusiastically supporting this programme... hoping the next few months are as amazing as the last few weeks!!

As for price, they offer a full, money back guarantee. So if you can spare the money, there really isn't any risk.

One point - it really is important that one parent (or carer) sit through all sessions with the child. The EasyRead people give you videos to help train you and have you look out for things. You're on the "team" with them. I honestly believe it won't work if the parent just sticks child in front of computer. So make sure you're ready to devote the time before you invest the money!

Best of luck!!

Please would you look at our 'yes we can read' website. It is a manual, which anyone who can read can just pick up and use to teach someone from 8 to 80. All you have to do is read the general instructions in 15 minutes or so. Please look at the videos you will be inspired. One-to-one is the key. It works, I promise you.

Please all parents with struggling readers and writers look into Fiona Novela and Diane McGuiness' - Sound Reading System. A PROVEN step by step intervention phonics programme for all ages - I've just finished the training and as a parent of a dyslexic son getting no structured intervention at school this has offered me hope. The skills of encoding and decoding words HAVE to be learnt otherwise it is an exercise in memory testing. Any parent of a dyslexic child will tell you what a disaster this is!
