Please can people share ideas of what has worked well if you have attended or run a Literacy/Dyslexia workshop.

I am studying for a Postgraduate Diploma and have decided upon an Action Research project to try and engage/support parents that have worries about Literacy Difficulties and Dyslexia. I would appreciate any advice on what has worked well (from Parents, teenagers and Professionals) and any do's/dont's when running groups. I look forward to hearing from you. I plan on holding 7 sessions across this term and want to offer advice, activities, and general support :)

Success and Dyslexia (Nola Firth) is a useful course to base some sessions on. I am using it with my Y6 students but the strategies could be taught to parents so they can support their children. It is all about facing difficulties whilst also recognising strengths; it is about empowerment, learning helpful strategies and setting useful goals.

I recently attended a meeting about dyslexia & felt the easy presentation of pictures & explanation was very useful. Presentation must be simple, straight forward, easy to listen to, not too long. Remember if a child has dyslexia one of the parents may have it too.

Thankyou, I ran my first coffee morning/workshop last week, only four parents came unfortunately, but they found it useful and hopefully will bring a friend next week :)

Please would you look at our 'yes we can read' website. It is a manual, which anyone who can read can just pick up and use to teach someone from 8 to 80. All you have to do is read the general instructions in 15 minutes or so. Please look at the videos you will be inspired. One-to-one is the key. it works, I promise you.
