Hi Kittussingh
Are you under the care of a consultant and specialist clinic in Diabetes?
How is your diabetes controlled? With insulin? What about your HBA1c? Do you know what it normally is like?
Kind regards
Boab
are you taking metformin - this can cause problems absorbing B12 - leading to a deficiency - can affect as much as 40% of patients. B12 deficiency takes years to manifest. The symptoms of B12 deficiency overlap hugely with the symptoms of diabetes so it can be missed as assumptions are that symptoms are down to the progress of diabetes.
Add to this that there isn't a good test for B12 deficiency and people can be deficient well into the normal range and diagnosis can get quite complicated. A serum B12 dropping significantly over time may be the best way of diagnosing the problem.
Have you maintained good glucose control of your Type 1 Diabetes?
HBa1c of 7 doesn't sound too bad. I notice that the medication can cause side effects including tiredness/fatigue and weakness. It is best to talk to your doctor about your symptoms and see what they think.
Hi Kittussingh, well done for controlling your BG so long. I have been T1 for 52 yrs this June since being 3. Your legs etc are so important & I drink lots of Diet Tonic Water. Good for circulation & with a hint of lemon keep colds at bay. Good luck.
