What is your favorite low carb. fruit... - Diabetes Research...
What is your favorite low carb. fruit for tighter blood sugar control? Multiple choice.
Grapefruit sadly off the menu for years because it cannot be taken with statins!
Cherries
Blueberries
Do you have them on their own or mixed in with other fruits/food?
I have them every morning with home made muesli and Greek yoghurt. The muesli has chopped apricots and golden raisins in as well as flakes, nuts and seeds.
Can’t eat any fruit otherwise I will go on a sugar binge, drives me crazy and always has.
Sorry to hear that about fruit. Do you eat low carb. vegetables and/or yogurts?
Hi, a bit off topic, but my 50yr old son has just been diagnosed, after a massive mix u,p with Diabetes type 2. He knew some years back that this would happen eventually and had been monitered as far as he knew yearly. Howver, having his 50 year full health check this month his blood sugar was 80. It turns out that since our previous GP left the practice ten years ago, they had only been checking his cholestrol annually and had stopped checking his blood sugar! In addition, they apparently found out five years ago that he has some kidney damage but didn't tell him. The question really is, what can he take as a packed lunch in all this heat that will be healthy and easy to eat?...he's ambulance crew. On a 12 hour shift, a salad wouldn't remain fresh. I'd appreciate any ideas that I can pass on. Also, what are the best 'sweet items' to carry in case of a hypo should this happen. He thinks that polos would do the trick, would they? Many thanks in advance,.
Is your son allowed to have cranberry juice? I drink cranberry and/or pineapple juice and Orgain for lows/snacks depending on the time of day/blood sugar.
Does your son like granola/protein bars? He can use the bars for quick on the go meals. I have protein bars for lunch with fruit when I go to work.
Does your son use a CGM? If he does, you can ask him to send you an invite to be a follower of his so you can get notifications of his blood sugars.
I hope this helps. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
Thank you so much for your helpful reply A. I will forward it to him. At first it all seems quite confusing. He wasn't told until Friday of last week. Becaue the Diabettic nurse at the surgery is was about to go on leave he wasn't given much information at all, not even a print out of dos and don'ts. Your tips will really help. He will have a further appointment in two weeks time, when he will, hopefully, get more clarification. In the meantime your tips will help, patticularly the idea of the protein, granola, bars. I know he likes these and used to use them for long hikes. They have said that they will arrange for a day at a local hospital to learn more. Take care, and thank you again, K.
