Yes, I frequently add raw asparagus to salads. You just rinse the tips and slice them from the tip end until the stalk becomes too tough to slice. Tastes really pleasant, however I would say you loose about a third of the stem - which is a bit wasteful (unless you add the ends to a vegetable soup!)
