Does Diabetes affect your sleep in any of these ways? This is a multiple choice poll and please say what other is.
Sometimes it’s difficult to know what is caused by diabetes and what by other health conditions or medication.
The ‘other’ for me is a side effect of taking Jardiance tablets. I have to go to the loo up to 5 times during the night. It’s no joke when I have to get up at 04.30
The same thing here
Did you call your doctor to schedule an appointment to discuss the issues dealing with getting up at 4:30 each morning?
The other for me is Sjögren’s and Hypothyroid plus overlap connective tissue disease - makes me extra thirsty and itchy and causes small fibre neuropathy and other very rare stuff to flare up.
Did the doctor say to take anything for the flare ups before going to bed each night?
Well I’ve only just been diagnosed with Diabetes and have tried all the antidepressant and anti convulsants neuropathy pain meds there are. In fact I believe it was Pregabalin that caused such a huge weight gain that tipped me into diabetes. I take a prescription PPI for reflux and gaviscon and have been prescribed a strong antihistamine now too. But the things that wake me are the dryness of Sjögren’s despite Max topical meds and also my collagen vascular disease, Raynaud’s and Erythromelagia.
Thank you for letting us know. Some medications can cause sleep issues. When I was told to take cough syrup years ago because I had bronchitis, the doctor said to take it 'as needed and before bed' because it would keep the cough down and I could get some sleep. The thing with that was, when it was necessary to take it during the day, it made me feel drowsy-- even when in the morning. It also raised the blood sugars slightly while taking it.
As I also suffer with peripheral neuropathy from knees down I can’t have the blankets on my legs/feet in bed at night because it feels like something is crawling over them; yuk. But on waking, I mostly feel like I’ve had no sleep at all.

Dear Activity2004,
I can't specifically say, if anything is Directly attributable to Diabetes, although I tend to Sleep quite well...Most of the time. I have to, normally Get Up, to use the loo (I DO have an Under Blanket though- Just in Case!)
I'm actually, quite New, to Diabetes although it was 'Threatening' for some time. My Consultant's opinion is that it Was 'Inevitable, at some stage'. Maybe ask again, next year....

Hi AndrewT ,

Sometimes, when the blood sugars are higher, this can make some people have to use the restroom more often-- even during sleep. For me personally, if my blood sugars go high at night, I have to get up before my normal wake-up time for the morning.
Other includes NASH, Cirrhosis, Metabolic Syndrome, Mental Health all interactions and medicines over many years. It is impossible to say that my sleep problems are exclusive to Diabetes.
Most days I go to bed with swollen feet and sharp pains in my toes most nights I only sleep between three and four hours
Has your doctor suggested that you use something for the foot issues at bedtime? Please check out the free leaflet on feet and Diabetes. drwf.org.uk/understanding-d...
Neuropathy might be the cause of my lack of sleep. But when I am fasting, I sleep briefly for around an hour at night!
What time do you start getting ready for bed each night?
I get to bed at 11 pm usually, after my dinner at 9 pm.
